Marshall is just like all the other schools. Going out all lib-tard.

One should expect this out of the Northeast and out there in Fruit Land on the west coast, but I always figured the hick schools would maintain being hicks.

If I was of college age now days, I would forego college, and just go learn a trade. Maybe be a plummer, or an electrician. Those guys make pretty good money, and who cares if you have to occasionally remove a large turd from the bowl.

Would that be considered religious garb? If so no place for it on public school grounds, right libs?

No. I didn't deserve it either. What do you mean deserve it?

Hello utopia.
Your entire argument is she's wearing a hijab at Marshall so Marshall is uber liberal. That is the second dumbest thing you hve posted this week.
Like i said there are Christian sects that wear head coverings do you consider them oppressive women haters?
Diversity at Marshall how is that a bad thing. I have a feeling you would hve fit in really well with adolf rupp at Kentucky during the 50's

Yes Marshall is liberal as most colleges are. Maybe not UC Berkeley but full of libs. They put these posters up to say oh look at us all inclusive and we love the muslim people.

I don't care about Christians wearing the garb. Do they have a nun picture up? It is all about throwing bones to the muslims.

That's a fabricated argument. Where do you see liberals claiming that individual students shouldn't be able to wear a cross necklace, WWJD bracelet, or an "I Heart Jesus" t-shirt?

What we want is a clear separation of church and state. That means our tax money should not be going to support any religion.
- Middle schools should not be passing out Bibles (or Qu'rans). If a middle school student wants to read his personal Bible during recess, have at it.
- Public colleges should not be spending tax payer money to endorse, promote, or support a religion. If a college student wants to wear a shirt or "garb" indicating their beliefs, then have at it.

It is about reaching out an olive branch and trying to make all people feel welcome. Christians aren't a disenfranchised group in this country. Christians aren't the ones being attacked, stabbed, and harassed on a daily basis in this country based on their religious beliefs or "garb." Muslims are.

It's no different than what has taken place in certain middle eastern/African countries. Christians, as a disenfranchised group, has had groups go out of their way to try and welcome them. Muslims aren't disenfranchised in those countries, so they don't have a need for people to go out of their way to make them feel welcome; they already have that comfort.

I believe the hats Amish women wear are for religious reasons. Good people, the Amish. We have a lot of them here in Southern Indiana.
I thought they wore them because they haven't bathed and washed their hair for months at a time. With that said, you just reminded me that my Saturday is ruined, as I have to go to Amish Country in Northern Indiana (Shipshewana). Good eating down there, but no damn beer.

No, it's for modesty purposes. Same as Muslim women do.

Head to South Bend, go to Crooked Ewe, get some BBA Old Ale. Better hurry, it's a small batch they have right now. Get smashed on three pints. Thank me later.

I'm actually going down to Goshen Brewery after the miserable shopping. Meeting friends there. Have already scoped out their beer menu, and they have a tripel that sounds interesting.

Yags, does Marshall have a banner hanging on campus showing a male or female with their cross shown prominently?

What % of marshalls student body is Muslim? It appears someone went out of their way to post a women in hijab

What percentage of Pepsi drinkers are black? Should Pepsi only use that percentage of blacks in their marketing?

Not only isn't it for marketing purposes, but it's for ethical purposes.

Ethical?

What percentage of marshalls campus is Christian? Jewish? Is their a student banner on campus with a Star of David or Cross visibly showing? What I'm suggesting is that whom ever is responsible for these banners went out of their way to show a middle eastern women in Muslim garb. Why not an Israeli with a Star of David clearly showing? I'm sure someone fits that criteria on campus as well. Or how about an Hindu student with a Bindi.

Someone is triggered.

Fvckin' A. Anybody who won't let you take their picture gets a hell of a lot of respect from me.

But Marshall is where a lot of hicks in denial go to pretend they're in NY or LA. They're still just hicks, but now they're cool with their KEE-FM music, MTV watching and adopting liberal culture while they major in bullshit on Daddy's money.

Saw the whole thing. Was part of my rite of passage, getting one of the very few four year degrees left that will get you a better job than Starbucks.

Yes, ethical. Supporting the most disenfranchised of groups is ethical. Since your kind believes Muslims can't be trusted, and since you appear to be a Christian, you should also understand the ethics in forgiveness.

Yes, they probably did go out of their way to show diversity in the banners, which includes a Muslim female. If you look at any college marketing material, it is very rare that the pictures will be homogeneous. They will show more diversity in their ad material than what it really is on campus.

So, besides showing diversity, why would they potentially go out of their way to include a Muslim instead of, say, a Hindu? It is because Muslims are a disenfranchised group in this country. Ask any Muslim since 9/11 how many times they have been harassed due to their religion/appearance of being Muslim in this country. Hindus will face some of it only because the morons doing the harassing are too dumb to realize having a darker complexion and/or a turban isn't indicative of being Islamic. As a result, Marshall probably did make it a point to show a Muslim as opposed to a Jew, Hindu, etc. in their diversity attempt.

You see, a big part of college is being around people you are not used to be growing up. You should be around different cultures, races, religions, and people from other parts of the country/world. I think it is a part that Marshall fails miserably in doing. The vast majority of students are from the local area. The fact that the local area has very little diversity magnifies the issue.

Now, how about you telling us: why are you so bothered that a Muslim is shown on a banner on Marshall's campus? Why would you feel better if it were a Hindu or Jew?

I actually couldn't care less that this lady is shown in this banner. My issue is simply you can't have it both ways. Schools shouldnt ban certain religious behavior from a campus yet allow and I would argue in this situation promote others in the name of helping a "disenfranchised" religious sect. I personally would be more happy if they displayed banners of people of many religious sects and varying cultures. When one is singled out in an effort to help the "disenfranchised" I would argue they emphasize the segregation. I would rather as you mentioned a larger banner of many diverse people smiling and standing unified rather than singled out.

.

Give some examples. What religious behavior done by an individual student is not allowed in schools?

If a Jew wanted to wear a kippah, it would be allowed. If a Muslim wanted to wear a hijab, it would be allowed. If a Akurinu (Christian denomination in Kenya) wanted to wear a turban, it would be allowed. If a Christian wanted to wear his white pointed hood . . . you get the point.

So, again, I ask you what religious behavior has been banned by schools that is the same as the girl in the picture (in other words, an individual)?

I've been saying this for a couple years now. Kids don't want to do any of the trades, since they figure it's better somehow to get $80K in debt for a worthless liberal arts degree then work some useless job for $30K/yr.

Plumbers may have to wrangle an occasional turd now and then, but they'll charge you $200 for the 10 minutes they spent doing it.

And this whole time I thought Marshall was attempting to present themselves as a global university in order to create the image that they are more than simply a commuter college whose reach doesn't exceed the southern coalfields. I'm thinking that's a good thing because in order to compete we need to increase our enrollment and we are limited if we only appeal to the population and economic limitations of our area.

Silly me. I want to thank you guys for seeing this for what it is...the assertive motives of a liberal university to elevate the status of towelheads in our country in order to dilute the foundations of freedom we stand for.

MAGA!

Dont worry most in wv would smirk in disgust at that billboard. Even Bill Mahler said,,,,,to my dear liberal friends,,please after islamist bomb someplace please quit saying those poor muslims. Head scarfs are worn by minndonites and amish

Only other people they can really make a play for are the Northeast rejects WVU brings in. Go sell the warmer climate, flatter campus, maybe smatter in this global stuff. Really a tough sell with WVU being a lot closer for them.

Maybe it's time to be happy and proud to serve area commuters and the southern coalfields.

You ok with raising the retirement age to qualify for social security?

God forbid a university in a dying state partake in marketing to a diverse and international market.

I am sure that was their intent. Why didn't they put a viking on there? Or a Samurai warrior? Or one of those Dutch kids with wooden shoes?
