I can't tell you how many Saturday's my life has been devoted to Marshall football.
But with Docs "infallible plan" years later all e can do is beat the worst of the worst. Doc is good at beating the worst. The reality is that we suck, and slightly below average is what we can expect with doc. Yes we can wait till next year or 5 years after.
I will always lov Marshall football. But we clearly have a staff and and athletic department that is happy with mediocre.

I strongly Disagree......"everyone is on board when the Train is running well....but, just let the Engineer cause the train to jump the track".......all Hell breaks out among some Herd "pretender" fans....

I doubt the L'ville Cards fans have thrown their players under the train after their close loss at Death Valley (Clemson).

Just curious. How big or how good do you think Marshall should be given its resources and conference affiliation?

if you assume Pitt and Louisville will end the seasons with winning records, Doc is not 7-20 against such teams. Pruett was 25-10 against winning teams. I expect that we can be good enough to beat WKU and Middle Tennessee.

Ok. We fire Doc, who do we hire? AND why is that person able to get the job done with the resources we have?

I do not want to fire Doc and I want that clearly understood by what I'm about to post.

But there are plenty of coaches we can get to come lead Marshall University in football. No we aren't getting a top tiered FBS head coach who is already employed but that is as much about location and the conference we play in as it is money. If we paid 4 million a year there would still be a ton of good FBS head coaches who would not take this job. And there are a lot of G5 programs in the same boat. So we would be hiring a coordinator from a P5 or a FCS head coach.

I was listening to a sports talk show the other day talking about Houston. They said the only way Houston keeps their coach after this year is if they get in the Big 12. Tom Herman makes 3 million a year. Recruits in a gigantic state for talent, is in a huge city that is easy to sell to recruits, has an easier shot of making a big bowl (Access Bowl) every year and this year has an outside shot at the playoffs.

But even with all of that they will still lose their coach if they don't get into a P5 conference.

So money is one factor to getting a high quality head coach but it is definitely far from the only requirement.

We can hire OCs and DCs from successful big programs to be head coaches here. The majority of them want to be a head coach but only a select few will get that big program hire from being a coordinator. Most of their first head coaching jobs start at the FCS or G5 level. We can also look at the FCS ranks. You don't think a successful coach at the FCS would jump at coaching at the FBS level? I also guarantee our salary would be more than what they currently make.

The money excuse is just that an excuse. For the level we play at low (G5) our budgets, salaries etc are fine. if they made the decision to get rid of Doc which I hope they don't we would have the ability to get a good replacement. Now whether we would hire a better coach or not would depend on Hamrick and the people he would have helping him in the search but if they weren't it wouldn't be because of finances.

Look at Akron, they've got a bevy of good coaches; from the head coach right on down. Are they old, of course. But they can still coach and kids love good coaching. Doc will be fine at MU, he had to make some choices that he felt were right for the UNIVERSITY that hurt his team. I'm very disappointed, but in a small way also very proud. I see the horrid performance in the defensive backfield and want to cry; but then I see the kids and want to cry too for their dedication and commitment to their team and our University. I'm telling you right now, Doc doesn't run kids off, they make that choice themselves. It hurts like crazy that it has cost us in wins this year, but it may save us in recruiting for years to come. Remember that some stories have been the "kids" made the choice about what to do about others. That's good for the team and shows they understand too.

$27 Milliion isn't cheese cake, and we use it wisely. We lost to Akron and Pitt because of team experience and development, not because of budget constraints.

Really folks, some of you really shouldn't be abusing drugs. Who's going to want this job? Not even Molly McGrath would not leave Central High for this job.

LOL. We have a sophomore qb a ton of freshman DBs , it's a rebuild year.

We have had 3 straight 10 win seasons. You can't win all of them.

I live these gloom and doom posts cause at least it means you care.

We are fine and in fact I'd say we are poised for a conference move to the AAC.

This is the kind of post I expect to see from someone who has been around Marshall Football since the early 2000s. But some of us have seen outstanding coaches come through this program that set up the success that Pruett built on.

Again, I am not suggesting Doc be fired...yet. (Although his offensive coordinator needs to be) But to think some GOOD young coach wouldn't want a head coaching job for $700k to jump start his career is blind.

I say this with a desire that Marshall Fans be willing to actually have the guts to want to be a stepping stone for good coaches again. Because, if we are a stepping stone, it means we are winning. Build the buy outs in the contract and reload when they leave. It's what we started doing with Stan Parrish. And it's why we no longer play at Fairfield.
