That anyone sees so far between Coach Huff and Docs recruiting? To me it looks like Coach Huff is going after players all over the map while Doc liked to get them from Florida.

I notice three big things. One, he is recruiting the "arena" as he says which means within 5 or 6 hours of Huntington. When you recruit the "arena" it means your recruiting friends and family of the player that comes to games, rents hotel rooms, buys gas, and spends time in the community. As he said when you recruit players that have to get on two plains to just get to Huntington it makes it hard for family to see you play. Second, look at AJ Turner, he attends Life Christian Academy. It seems Huff is recruiting kids with high character. When times get difficult high character players find ways to win(not cause trouble in the locker room). Third, he and his staff are building relationships with coaches. I know of a kid that is a potential WV kid that will be a walkon as a kicker/punter. The area coach spent a half an hour on the phone with his high school coach. The kid will be on campus soon for a try out, but the staff took the time to get info on the kid even if he is just a walkon.

I think Huff continues to recruit Florida, and honestly he needs to stay in that area, but you dont want to build a team just around Florida players. I am excited to see how he finishes this class but it sure is off to a great start.

I think Huff has played the portal pretty well too. As a G5 program, you're inevitably going to lose a few experienced players each year to P5 programs in this new Wild West Tranfer Portal environment. The key is finding game-ready athletes in the portal to replace them to avoid, or at least minimize any drop offs caused by key transfer losses. Huff and his staff seem to be doing that pretty well so far.
