Kroger begins offering naloxone without prescription in W.Va.

Apparently Huntington and the surrounding areas are so drug infested , riddled (already aware of that) that due to the massive problem Kroger has decided to try this in order to help combat the effects of an overdose. Did notice does not pertain to only WV/OH/KY however I would think the tri-state played a major role in the decision considering Kroger's headquarters is located in Cincinnati.

This is just plain sad , that my hometown has become what it is fueled by drugs due to an enormous combination of social and economic failures as well as the refusal of city leaders over the last 50 years to see the future as in adapting to a form of management and a mindset far removed from the ways of the past , great grand dads way of doing things. This is where you find the old and some new money creating a ridiculous mindset in only protecting themselves and the heck with everyone else

Add to this HPD announces layoffs , just what is needed a crime rampant city (burglaries , holdups , auto theft , drug trade , arson , larcenies ) with an undermanned force (hire one week layoff a couple of weeks later) Brilliant move on the part of the city leadership and phenomenal and visionary planning , its like did they not realize there was going to be a finance issue down the road or was some great ship suddenly going to come in..quite the opposite , the ship has sailed.

Instead of laying off law enforcement how about laying off the gravy working for the city as in non emergency personnel - find admin people that could be released reduce the Mayors salary or make it a ceremonial position (then you would need to hire a city manager) , building inspectors , street crews , trash crews , planning and development , municipal development authority , assistant city attorney , find the fluff in these departments ....anything but emergency personnel..you have enough issues with the force levels (PD and FD) at this time much less reducing them.

This folks is just typical of the mentality of Huntington as well as the mentality that has taken Huntington to where it is today , an economically blighted drug haven.

Why is Huntington still in the trash picking up business? They need to get rid of that and hire a company to do it. Maybe that would help and they would not have to lay off police and firemen.

Can you share with us the life altering trauma that has made you so resentful of MU, Htgn, Cabell county, and WV. I'm interested only because I know your folks to be wonderful people who have done so much to elevate MU and the city. I'm being nosy and it's none of my business but just can't figure this out.

It's not just Huntington. Opiates have taken over. The bigger issue is how we got there.

And do you really think Huntington could have turned out differently when all of Appalachia and the Rust Belt are in the same boat? Only some of the largest cities have adapted and changed.

They need to ban naloxone. You want to do drugs - you might die and no one will save you.

Should we also ban defibrillators? You knew it was bad when you ate that Baconater.

Seriously, that's just an asshole thing to think. It's almost inhuman. And do you realize the moral slippery slope when we start deciding which lives are worth saving? I would bet money you were screaming about "death panels" with Obamacare, too.

Resentful of Huntington - no not at all , just smart enough almost 25 years ago to get our son and daughter away from what was a very foreseeable future for Huntington , collapse of the economy , city made up of min wage restaurant / bar jobs , failing businesses , drug infested neighborhoods , neighborhoods that were once really nice areas , well kept lawns now looking strikingly like the Deitz Hollow dump.

No my hometown is nowhere close to what it was when I was growing up for sure , back when it was larger than Lexington Kentucky , back when coal , steel , the river and railroads ruled the roost

Marshall - Marshall has never come to grips with the fact it is what it is and continues to want to be and tries to be what it is not and never will be , we have a good med school and a great forensic's program ( a program that should be funded until we just run out of money ) Athletics , with the exception a few basketball seasons and a run in the 90's and early 2000 the claim to fame is being thrown out of the MAC and the crash.

I harbor no ill will to the city that is still controlled by an 1800's mentality a city that due to the lack of good solid leadership and along with the squandering of talent has turned out to be what it is today because those that could didnt and continued as great great granddaddy did things. Scared to progress , scared that someone would take something from them and that selfish ass backwards mentality has led to what Huntington has become.

Other areas , Charlotte , Columbia ,Greenville SC , the research triangle , Charleston (SC) have moved forward , onward and upward and now house half of the city of Huntington (sarcasm) while Huntington continues in its drug stupored downward spiral.

Know many who would like to be in Htown with family , but ultimately made the same decision my wife and I made , get out while we could and do it more for the kids than any other reason , something our children have thanked us for more times than I can count.

My parents , just let that slide.

Thank you for the response. I'm confused by the last sentence. If you misinterpreted what I said earlier let me be clear I meant those remarks in the most respectful way.

Are they into robotics?

I'm getting interested in how robots could take over. Everything we do could be programmed in. The mechanical aspects of our work, what's left of it, could easily be automated. But even the thought processes could be as well.

Let's face it. We're obsolete. Just posers playing important seeming roles.

Robots. Because people are just inferior.

Robots, by design, could not fvck up Waldens drive thru order. Ever.

They're going to have to make better food for me to go back. Had two little maple sausage patties tonight on the Foreman. Holy cow, just too good. There's no fast food place that serves anything that good.

And I figured out that wrapping it in aluminum foil keeps it from sticking to the damn thing and leaving half of it on there.

Until I burn the shit out of myself, this is the way to go. After that, well it might just be back to the McDonald's line.
