I have read on this board and the free board people saying our goals are still attainable and that is to win the SBC. While that is true the win over Notre Dame changed things. The goal after that win should have been for the Access Bowl game and an outside shot at the playoffs. The reason I say that about the playoffs is there was an opportunity after our Notre Dame win that we could play 3 more ranked team in our conference. A 12-0 Marshall team with 4 top 25 wins including Notre Dame I don’t think would be laughed off and the Access Bowl we would definitely be at the top of the line.
But now even if by some miracle we go 11-1 we aren’t going to anything other than a Sunbelt tie in bowl pre Christmas against a fellow G5. Will I be happy if we win the SBC this year, absolutely. But losing to Bowling Green ended Marshalls shot of doing nationally and that’s what makes it very hard right now to see the silver lining.
