Will CUSA punish us by

Beggars can't be choosers... And to answer the question, yes, CUSA will put the screws to us as we leave. Can't really blame them.

We haven't had to make that trip yet and we are a 7-5 team potentially without its starting QB. Taking the Bahamas Bowl is probably not that bad a deal. Let's just make sure we beat whatever 7 win MAC team we play.

Why does everyone have this fixation on the Bahamas being some sort of punishment, when 10s of 1000s of people pay big $$ to fly or cruise there, every year, particularly in the dead of winter?

And, getting back to sports, right now you can turn on ESPN and see lots of MAJOR basketball teams in tournaments in places like Las Vegas, Cancun, (normal years) Hawaii, and wait for it, waith for it.

The Bahamas.

In basketball, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Richmond, Michigan State, Loyola, Auburn, Syracuse, VCU, Baylor, and Arizona State, all played in the Bahamas this year, and if you go back over the last five you can find names like Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Indiana, Kansas, Texas, BC, and pretty much 9 out of 10 of the MAJOR programs in the eastern two thirds of the country.

But somehow a nice football trip to a warm place and exposure to a different culture and way of life is "punishment" in football.

Please.

The answer is obvious. You can’t hop in the car and drive to the Bahamas. I tried once and didn’t make it. On the other hand I have driven to Bahama, NC a couple of times.

Well Sam if you have the expendable cash on hand during the holidays (assuming you celebrate them) then good for you. You get to go watch us (if it’s us) play a MAC team. So yes punishment or don’t you think the other conference would want a piece of the Bahamas?

The Bahamas are slightly better than Honduras but they are an island with a big fancy hotel or two. Plus with Covid variant 14 omnicron that came from China and restrictions and such who wants to fool with it.

If the players enjoy it then let them have it. We can watch it on ESPN 8 or Facebook Messenger.

You did SEE our game yesterday, right?

We cannot draw a third of a crowd in HUNTINGTON WEST VIRGINIA.

But you cannot on a PRACTICAL BASIS, just hop in the car and drive to CUSA bowl games in places like New Mexico or Texas either. Even Florida or New Orleans, for fans who actually live in the region are on the edge of what is drivable in one day.

But, the actual answer is "SO WHAT??"

Away travel is the most over-rated thing in the world. The rich and upper-middle class Big Green high donors (which are about 100 people total) have the scratch to go to a game if it was on Mars. They, the odd "I graduated from Marshall back in 79 and loaded up the V-dub and started teaching here in (Florida/North Carolina/Georgia/inside the DC beltway/wherever) and never looked back, I go see the team everytime they play down here"; parents and girlfriends are what shows up at any MU away game.

We have been down this path before. Other than the "access bowl" the bowl matrix for ALL FIVE of the G5 is pretty much the same. We play either one another or the 6th or 7th or lower finisher in a P5 in a obscure pre-Christmas bowl.

Lots of reasons to hate on CUSA. But bowl agreements are not one of them. Because the other four G5 are just the same.

Spoken like someone who’s never been to the Bahamas

Or Honduras.

Average income in the Bahamas is on a par with bottom tier European countries like Portugal, Italy, or Greece. Honduras is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.

Who cares? We freaking suck and don't even deserve a bowl game. Crowd sucked, team sucked, coached sucked. Embarrassing. And we will get embarrassed in a bowl too

So Sam do you plan on going to the Bahamas IF that’s the bowl we get? Bet you will be in the minority of Herd fans who go.

So by this tread....

CUSA is punishing one of the teams staying in the CUSA.

Peace out thunders. Go be a fan of someone else then

I kinda liked the Marshall/Nevada matchup in Albuquerque. I'd prefer not to play a future division mate, but a bowl is a bowl and the players will have a good time. It for them after all. If it is going to be a Belt team, give me Louisiana or Coastal.

Been to both. And, Italy. Once was enough.

Any idea on when the announcement will be made?
The playoffs and “New Year’s Six” are on ESPN Sunday against the NFL pregame shows. The rest of the bowls will be released one by one on the internet during the early game. Should know no later than 5 Sunday.
