WKU Thoughts

To be honest I am still salty about two of our games this year. We scored 104 against a one bid league team and lost by double digits.

You keep framing the William & Mary loss as some sort of disaster when it was far from it. They're a top 100 RPI team and were tied with them in their gym with under eight minutes to go. We were up by eight at one point in the second half.

Now the Morehead loss? That one was inexcusable, even without Rondale.

It's not a disaster for our current state of affairs... its a disaster based on where I want to be as a program. MTSU will never have a game like that.

I know or will never happen as DD has said so but I wish would play in the CIT just to get post season experience for next year. We could have a great year next IF Bennett is half as good as some imply. He will be a freshmen though, give him some slack.
Not worried about Elmore leaving. I think he has bought into what next year could be.

Be nice to pick up a grad transfer Big man just for depth. Jmo
His stock dropping? He needs to play another year to have a shot

Not so sure. he is playing better all around ball now than he has ever played. Aggressive defense, rebounding, assists and just plain leadership. No, his shots from out side aren't falling but still managing to average nearly 22ppg.

He didnt come close last year. His shooting is down from last year. I dont know him. Im only judging his play on the floor. He might make a d team roster which is huge. Thought u didnt watch the nba herdmeister.

Like to have seen Mijovic on the floor with Penava. Mijovic's a big stong man, had five fouls to give, preferably to #22 Coleby. Penava may have not fouled out!!

Chuck.....if DD inserts Miijovic &Penava at the same time......who does he place on the bench? Certainly not one our top 3 scoring guards.....

I watch the Rockets because of Mike coaching them

We play decent defense. As I say to many people over and over, to keep the opponents score low, all you have to do is slow down the game. That limits their possessions. If you play up tempo, like we do, they also get more possessions and of course will score more. We are one of the better teams in the league in steals and turning over the opponent.Of course far and away better in blocked shots. Those are all contributors to good defense.

Nothing in tonight's game supports that we played good defense. Slaughtered on the boards by a team who Coach D. admitted in post game was smaller than us. Up tempo offense carelessly, sloppily played often results in turnovers and easy scores as we witnessed tonight. Trying to constantly trying to throw lobs inside which only result in scores about 3 out of 10 times often leads to baskets on the other end, as we saw tonight. Quick, often ill advised shots, as we saw at end of game tonight and end of the WKU game, often lead to scores at the other end as we saw tonight.

We had a scoring drought of over 2 minutes and were 2 for 10 shooting at crunch time at the end of the game. Similar to the WKU loss there. Danny's shoot it (the 3) if you think you are open, no matter what time, what the game situation is, whether we only need one point and should maybe take some time off the clock in getting that 1 point, is obviously not infallible as he, and some of you, think. Maybe if he recruits better 3 pt. shooters, it would be more successful, but I can see little sense in having a guy struggling to shoot 40 per cent from the free throw line, George, having a "green light" to fire away from 3 pt. land!

Yeeeeepppppp

Concord
Akron (10-11)
Eastern Kentucky (8-16)
Southern Miss (11-12)

What do all of these teams have in common? (besides the fact that they are not very good at basketball) These are the only teams Marshall has out rebounded this entire season.

It's almost like, when you ignore two whole phases of the game (defense and rebounding)... it makes it that much harder to win. I for one just wish the "Danalytics" looked at numbers that are relevant and realized that extra rebounds equal extra possessions.

This just simply isn't true.

We shot 45% from the field against MTSU.

Against UAB we shot 38% as a team.

We shot 32% from threes against Toledo.

43% as a team and 40% from 3s against La Tech.

31% from 3s and 46% as a team against Southern Miss.

Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn against WKU (the second game) and led with under 4 minutes to play.

Oddly enough, our best shooting night of the season came against William & Mary, which is a game we lost.

Think about that... our BEST shooting night of the season, we score in triple digits, and we lost. Why do you suppose that is?

our defensive efficiency ranking is 186th in the nation.
our ppg allowed is: 331st in the nation
our reb per game is: 159th in the nation

so no, we don't play "decent" defense.

Different argument, although what you're implying is certainly accurate.

it's not a different argument though. My argument is that in order to win we have to shoot well (i shouldn't have said shoot lights out) and that we can't rely on defense or to get stops when we need them and that we give up a lot of extra possessions by not being able to rebound.

In the game against W&M we shot lights out and still didn't win because we couldn't play defense or get boards when we needed them.

I want our program to succeed, I just don't see it happening unless we can defend and rebound and Danny doesn't seem to big on that.
