ESPN just had a segment on the Kifster. After being beat down by USC, his move to Sabanville seems to have been a successful but ballsy experiment by Saban.

My question is, if Doc were to move on ( not that he is or ever will) would you hire Lane Kiffin as your next HC at Marshall?

Me personally I would take that gamble on him. Only due to the fact he throws it a lot.

You?

he currently makes $715k a year from 'Bama and $2.6 million a year (until 2018) from USC (his current salary is subtracted from the $3.4 million a year USC owes him through 2018).

if he wasn't getting the money from USC, he would easily be making over a million a year from 'Bama.

even if we could afford him, i wouldn't touch. he was in Knoxville for 15 minutes and landed them with 12 NCAA violations.

If you could get him to return your call it would be a no-brainer but the conversation would likely be a short one when you tell him how much you would be able to pay.

God yes but it will never happen. Not sure why people loathe him so much. I guess because he left UT for USC?

Almost all the sanctions against UT from the year he was there were extremely minor. None even resulted in a loss of a single scholarship, much less a postseason ban.

I'll admit he's a bit slimy but he's a great recruiter and is a genius calling plays on offense.

He will get a high level P5 HC gig again soon. Maybe at Bama once Saban hangs them up.

Hell no, if you guys think Coach Synder took us through the depths, Lane would destroy the Marshall Football Program.

USC assistant : NCAA probation

Raiders: 4-12, fired. Accused of "making excuses and flat out lies" by ownership.

Tennessee: 7-6, quit. Massive NCAA violations, probation. Multiple stupidassed comments.

USC: 8-5, 10-2, 7-6, 3-2 fired mid season. Massive NCAA violations.

Now he is an assistant coach at Alabama. IMHO, the Tide is winning inspite of him not because of him.

What in that resume would make him a good candidate for a head coaching job at Glenville?

I say he is way over rated to begin with as a HC. He coached 2 years in the NFL and was fired. His record was 5-15. Okay so maybe some guys aren't cut out to coach at that level. Even Saban and Spurrior had a challenge. He coached 1 year at Tenn- 7-6. He then moves on to USC and coaches 3 and half years and goes 28-15. He had a 10 win season in 2011, other than that all average or worse everywhere he has been. He reminds me of 2 other "high profile assistant coaches. Charlie Weiss for one A good OC but not a great HC. The other is the Frat boy up north.

What are the massive violations Kiffin is responsible for while at UT and USC?

USC was on probation when Kiffin got there and still hasn't recovered from the mess Pete Carroll left them in.

I personally think he's done a masterful job with Alabama's offense. Loved what they did in the NCG against Clemson.

I would be inclined to give him a hall pass on The Raiders coaching outcome, I think he was way in over his head. Maybe even Tennessee as he was hailed as a miracle worker that would have the winning the SEC East in his first season. After that it's all on him... Just because you're a really good coordinator doesn't mean you have the chops to be an equally good head coach. You see it in the NFL all the time. Plus, he would be here 2 - 3 years max. Marshall has had its greatest successes when there was long term stability at the head coaching position, not someone looking to use the job and program as a resume builder. Look at Southern Miss, they finally get back to respectability and the coach moves on the green pastures. Unlike the fortune situation we have at Marshall, where Doc stops the bleeding, builds Marshall into a marquee G5 program and now spends his efforts reloading each year. No way I'd take a chance on Kiffin as Marshall's next head coach. BTW I thought Butch Jones was the perfect choice to replace Snyder, but in hindsight he would probably be 4 years removed as Marshall's coach by now.

We already have a head coach. :D

Indeed, and he's been a great one. Doc has proven me wrong on so many points since he was hired, I feel I owe the man an apology. He's been awesome. He's built men out of boys, never once has he embarrassed Marshall, he has won, he has rebuilt us , and has worked his tail off. You can see it in the program top to bottom.

Hamrick called Doc a gutsy hire, it was, but it has worked out magnificently.
