Thank you for serving your country, Says The Tax Man

You can keep saying that all you want, but it will never make it true.
You're right. I can't make what you said become true, because what you said is false. That's why you won't explain the exact quote I posted of yours.

But hey - let's look at E-3 pay:

$2260/month. Taking Herdman's 17% rate as truth, that leaves $1875 for the grunt. $1875 after taxes with room, board, and insurance all paid . . . and if he/she stays in for another 16-18 years, they will get a hell of a pension for the rest of their life.

So you're telling me that a person who gets $1875 after taxes and has room, board, and insurance paid is living at poverty level? Exactly, moron. Now, back to the minors you go.

You are independently wealthy and are analyzing this?

If you are paying into SS like most, you're doing your part at supporting the current boomer generation (or older), and the countless leeches classified as "disabled". Most of these geezers failed to prepare fully for the end of their working life, choosing to put their full faith in a ponzi scheme govt system, they treated as a retirement plan. They chose not to educate themselves on how the system was financed, what it was intended to really provide and what exactly the ticking time bomb of increased payments and diminishing working age demographics meant to the future generations they are actually taking from.

If you are paying into it currently, and hope that you will receive anything, aside from a (miracle) tiny pittance, just stop. It's a HOPE. It is worthless dream. Stop wasting your energy. The politicians and the boomers screwed everyone. Your tax money is spent. It's gone. For SS to survive in a resemblance of the current form with sufficient reserves, full reform is all that can save it. Reducing benefit payments to current payees AND increased taxes on everyone...(along with increased death of the elderly and decrepit) is the only hope of saving it for future generations.

The group of politicians (R&D) and the voters they are paying off with SS/DIS checks, while kicking the can down the road are accomplices in this scheme. It's time for both parties to admit SS's impending demise and quit offering up bandaid fixes that have no long term impact and only work to satisfy the current leeching recipients.
I thought covid was designed to cut down on the number of current SS payees.

You're an idiot.

for shits and grins, i looked up the poverty levels for 2023. $14,580 for a one person household. $14,580. that comes out to around $7.01/hour if working a 40 hour week, 52 weeks a year, well less than minimum wage.

see, one can make it okay on minimum wage.

If no action is taken to correct what is being depleted, SS is in serious financial trouble in ~13 years. This projection doesn’t even calculate the effects of COVID related issues on the fund.

Additionally, and more troubling, these projections are also built on the ability of the US Treasury’s ability to sell Treasuries (debt) to help finance the cost increases impacting the SS. This fact should send up the warning flares to anyone that actually cares about the country. We see where you fit in all this.
