Marshall Receives $5 Million Gift To Marshall For All

This is a cut and paste from another MU board I read this morning.

This is not sports related, so scroll to another topic if you not interested in Marshall U news. Brad does have wealthy friends and he can get contributions.

Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Charitable Foundation gifts $5 million toward Marshall For All program.
"Marshall University has announced a gift of $5 million from the Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Charitable Foundation to support the Marshall For All program. The foundation was founded by Sheryl Sandberg, former chief operating officer of Meta and founder of Lean In.

?I am profoundly grateful to my friends Sheryl Sandberg and Tom Bernthal for their extraordinary generosity towards the Marshall For All program,? said Brad D. Smith, Marshall?s president. ?This remarkable gift not only underscores their commitment to fostering opportunity and inclusion but also propels our mission forward with renewed vigor. It is with immense appreciation that we embrace this support, which will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on countless lives and advance our shared vision of a more equitable future.?

New month; new rant

Halloween is over and I’m wondering how long it will take my closest neighbor to take down the tacky decorations. I’m not holding my breath because the inflatable swimming pool is still up over there.

I mulched all the leaves two days ago and it was a waste of time. New ones make it look like I did nothing. Downside of living in the woods. Right now I’m watching squirrels and chipmunks chasing each other through the front yard leaves. I never realized they ever interacted. Amazing the number of animals that roam here: squirrels, chipmunks, owls, vultures, black bears, raccoons, opossums, woodpeckers, turkeys, and a few creatures that I can’t identify. Those worry me.

No decent holidays left this year. I try to celebrate Thanksgiving, but there is no way I’m ever trying to cook a turkey. I even ruined a microwaved sweet potato last year. Christmas sucks and the New Year celebrations are anticlimactic. That is all.

Baseball NIL

Baseball signee Cooper Hinson just was named 1st team all-state as an outfielder in Florida. He also just signed an NIL deal with Baseball Lifestyle (www.BL101.com), and he has a pretty cute girlfriend. Due to those accomplishments, we will ignore that he has thousands of fake social media followers.

It's good that Marshall athletes are getting some NIL love. It's bad that it appears they are doing it themselves without Marshall help.

Marshall vs Louisiana-Monroe - Tale of the Tape

The Herd opened as a 10.5 point favorite - the largest home favorite vs. FBS since Old Dominion in September 2023.
We've been a double-digit home favorite against an FBS team just three times in three years (-10 vs. Louisiana in '22, -14 vs Old Dominion in '23, and now).
Looking at ULM on paper, it's glaringly obvious how bad they've been on offense - specifically the passing game. The worst offense we've played against so far (excluding Stony Brook) is Virginia Tech at 377 yards per game...which is 82 more yards per game than ULM has mustered.
They've played three different quarterbacks this year including Texas transfer General Booty (sounds like a member of 2 Live Crew?) but all have played poorly.
Where they were making their hay prior to this past weekend's blowout loss to South Alabama, was by muddying up the game, keeping it close, and then taking advantage of the other team's mistakes.
ULM reminds me of a poor man's UAB team from 2018-2021. Nothing fancy. Run the ball on offense. Limit mistakes. Play sound defense, especially on the back end with no explosive plays. Their new coach is Bryant Vincent - who was OC for Bill Clark at UAB in 2014 and again from 2018-2021. Their DC also has ties to UAB, so the Bill Clark/UAB fingerprints are all over the program.
Despite not having any "all stars", their secondary has been exceptional this year. 16th best pass efficiency defense in the country so far.

Remember Old General Kelly who said Trump was a fascist. Well General you have some explaining to do.

Seems like the fomer General sits on the board of a company that profits from selling the govt housing on the border that houses migrants. Gee, a vested interest there hugggh General? Guess you don't want the border tightened up.

Oh, it gets even better General. Your company also houses children. There are 300,000 children missing from the migrant influx. Guess you inventory and monitoring these kids is not so good is. Investigations my be bad and liability is a tough thing.

The day of reckoking is coming for the swamp.

Decades and counting

It is Halloween again. My first Halloween in my house, I had one kid. One. A little girl dressed as a witch or maybe a witch dressed like a little girl. You can never be sure. I didn’t even realize what day it was so I had nothing to give her. I finally found a week old apple in the frig. The very worst treat you can give a kid.

That was decades ago and even though I now buy a bag of candy every year to hand out, I have never had another kid come to the door. I keep telling myself it is because I live in a dark inaccessible area where the houses are far apart, but there is a part of me that believes the witch-kid cursed me. Handing out an apple, I probably deserve it.
