How do the new kids look? Any of the older players improved during the down time?

Danny has been rather pleased with the group as a whole. He has them running more in hope's of playing faster this year.
He says Kinsey is a man on a mission. He is totally locked in. He has further developed his mid range shot and per Danny is deadly.
He is convinced that Obinna can help right away. In his words, "he is ready for D1 basketball "
He loves Early's skills but must work harder to get where he needs/wants to be. Danny believes the light will come on.
He says the hardest workers in practice to date are: West, Kinsey, Taylor and Saranac.
He is also pleased with Darius' improvement. It may make any decision of a redshirt very difficult

who is Darius?

Has Bennett been able to shed any weight? Heard he had put a bunch back on. If so, the kid may be lucky to see the floor for any amount of minutes.
How are Beyers and Williams looking? We need both those guys to play and shoot well to take us to a league title.

I was told on Sunday that Iran was well over 300 pounds again.

I was told closer to 330
That's not good. I understand the weight issues, but it would seem if he was really dedicated to playing and being the best he can be and helping this program, he could take measures to keep the weight off. Yeah, the rec. pool wasn't open but running, walking, exercising and watching the diet will help just as much.
I hope Danny sits him until he can get the weight off. AT 330 he will be too slow to defend and only give 5 minutes a half of good production - if that. ugh!

if........and that's a very big IF, he doesn't break the twice-broken foot again.

I personally helped/supervised Irans' initial weight loss and he was 100% committed and obviously did great as he lost over 80 # . Unfortunately he decided to stop paying attention to his diet last fall and quickly gained 20 lbs back during the season. You could easily see how it slowed him down and he was much more frequently in foul trouble towards the end of the year. Once the pandemic hit I feared that he would get back into bad habits again so I reached out several different times to encourage him to make good choices and stay in shape. I know for a fact that he did not get off of his couch for 4 months doing nothing but playing video games. He does not deserve playing time unless he gets below 300. Sad as he could really have helped defend big guys if he was down to 280-290 as Danny wanted.

Sits him? I prefer that Danny have him jogging regularly say from mid court in the HC up to the top of the"nosebleed" bleachers and back a few times daily. Believe that should help him shed a few, or more, of those unwanted pounds!

I don’t see Bennett getting a lot of minutes this season. Too slow by 1/2, and the offense is much better (and to the pace DD is looking for) when he isn’t part of it. Certainly not a starter at 330+lbs!

Agree.. he does set good screens and does defend opponents big guys but is a liability at 320 lbs. Needs to be around 290 to be effective.

I agree on Beyers and Williams, my concern is now does Dan have to recruit another big man in this class? IB may get recruited over thus forcing him to lose the weight or transfer if he wants PT.

Only news that we're sure to hear this week is whether the NCAA Council decides to delay, postpone the start of the basketball season to a date beyond November 10th. Such move would result in either outright cancelling or possibly rescheduling some/a lot of non conference games. Many of those scheduled in season tourneys are already talking about cancelling some tourneys or else moving them to a "bubble" site somewhere. One proposal I saw was that at least 5 of such tourneys were talking about moving them all to one site, the Mohegan Sun Casino/Resort in Connecticut, having all teams quartered in a "bubble", and playing all games with no fans. Of course all, or most all, games would be televised, various ESPNs, etc.

It will be interesting to see if the Covid concern as relates to college sports events is as magnified once the election is over on November 3rd. Some people feel that the restrictions being imposed have some connection to politics. I surely hope not, but it is possible. If we can play football games, why not basketball games. These kids, for the most part, show no symptoms and do not get sick. And the protocols are in place to limit exposures on campus. Let them play!! Danny has put together a good roster. I think he can get to NCAA tournament again.
