Any updates on Hoops

Not yet. I think Rucker will be here June 10 and the two Euros sometime later in the summer. Danny is really high on the possibility of the latter two providing some real help as the season progresses. They are working hard with Iran and Byers to improve their moves around the basket; if everything holds true, the former is going to be a beast -- can't wait to see him battle Bassey Michael continues to be an outside sharpshooter and has put on some nice weight. Jannson and Darius have added some -- and I do want to emphasize that word, or should I say "a little bit" of -- muscle. Tavy is back from China.

......at the risk of causing a “tilt” on this pin ball machine, really excited about this year’s edition of the Thundering Herd!
yes, a new chapter is starting and its kinda exciting and hope Bennett can get the weight off and continue to develop. Did the new kid from Kentucky get word from NCAA on being able to play first semester?

Since we are lowly Marshall, the NCAA has yet to rule on Andrew. They will probably let us know Dec 1st.

All that Tim said above is correct. The Euro's and walk ons should be here late this month.
If any of you can make it to practice on Tuesday and Thursday morning, you should stop by.
Watching Danny teach basketball is a work of art.
This is his favorite time. He is a teacher!

Bennett is down to 303 and is looking great. He will be a beast. He could lose another 10 pounds but it is not necessary. His weight will not hold him back. He plans to work a lot on quickness as well as stamina/strength this summer.

What time on Tuesday and Thursday mornings? Thanks.
The June schedule has changed from May.

All workouts are Guards 9-10am and Bigs 10-11am
This week is Tues and Thurs.
Next 2 weeks Tues and Weds.

All June workouts are in the Rec Center

Another REASON Danny was the better pick than Mike.
Danny has GREAT experience working & teaching younger players since he won over 500 high school games! For sure..he is a hands-on coach during practice!

Danny has made it clear to us. This is his favorite time of coaching. Right now there is no scrimmaging. There is only TEACHING. Danny loves it!
We have talked about how some coaches run up and down the sideline during the game telling the players everything to do. As he said, he doesn't do that. He says, "if I have to do that, then I didn't do a good teaching job"

Danny learned the game from the best. Then he went out and coached on his own and refined what he had learned. Then went to the NBA and learned even more.

Was at MU a year or two before Danny arrived. Remember on many occasions going along with other MU student fans to the upper bleachers in Gullickson Hall and watch Herd BB practice. Coach Ellis Johnson and staff did a lot of teaching, pointing things out to players, individually and collectively. Staff included, I believe, Larry McKenzie.

Johnson had been out of basketball for many years, mostly in insurance, I believe, before coming to MU. But he had been, back in the 20s Adolph Rupp's first All American at UK, and even decades later still knew a lot of basketball. Imagine some/a lot of Danny's teaching while coaching comes from his days at MU in the Gullickson gym.

......I wouldn’t discount his learning the game from Lewis.......

TRUE that [his Dad]
but Dan has the ability to grasp information from many coaches to include his Marshall mentors, Morgan Wooten (DeMatha legend) and he has learned a few tricks from Coach K.

Mike & Dan lean on each other and their "critique sessions" are comical to watch! Believe it or not---younger brother Mark (Charleston attorney, played at Coastal Carolina) gets his points in too.....and both older brothers listen. Sister, Doctor, Kathy Jo, is her brothers biggest cheerleader!!!!

any updates for us out of towners?

Bennett is down to 300 lbs and is moving very well. Foot seems to be completely healed. Rucker is strong very coachable with a good shooting touch but undersized and not very athletic. Taylor is fantastic. I think he will have an immediate positive impact on team and may end up being team mvp. He can do it all. Euros not in town yet

Euros projected to be here July 16. The plan is to have summer practice for them with the walk-ons. The 6'5" kid from Chapmanville favors (in looks) a young Willie Akers. The kid from Charleston Catholic just got the cast off his wrist. Both could be on scholarship before it's over. Luke is sporting a beard!

I like the taller lean kids that Dan brings in, maybe Rucker can find his spot after a couple years in the program. Also glad to hear Bennett is finally taking his weight off.

Iran has lost 81 pounds since 4/2018. Steady weight loss for the past 14 months. He still has a little to go but can certainly play at his present weight.

I thought the Chapmanville walk on was more like 6'8"

I thought this was a thread about the Jeff Hoops coal companies bankruptcy proceedings.

its sounds like he could make the 290 number
I dont think the number is as important as it is getting him in good cardiovascular shape. He can play at 300 if he is in good shape and he could also be out of shape at 290. His foot will do better with less overall weight and it does appear to be healed. He has worked hard making some great long term changes. Many props to him!!

how is his jump shot?

Are the Euro’s in Huntington, if so are they practicing with the team this week? Also, what are the days and times of this weeks workouts?

So much for them getting into town, become familiar with the school, facilities, teammates, etc. Maybe even getting into some preseason conditioning work, etc. Sort of tells me that Danny and staff aren't counting on them being early "impact" players or perhaps being major contributors right away. Perhaps more in the category of more "projects" from across the pond!!!

They were hoping the Euro's would be here but unfortunately that have yet to be accepted at Marshall. The other newcomers are here and working out with many of the returning players. The plan was to practice all summer with the new guys, including the Euro's but paperwork has delayed that.
If you recall, we have NEVER had any of the overseas guys here before mid August in the past.

The Euros are now scheduled to arrive on Saturday, July 27. Their first practice will be Tuesday, July 30, right up to the start of the semester. The other newcomers and returnees will join them then.
