I thought the business school was already named President Brad D. Smith College of Business.

Business School: Apparently they are selling the same piece of merch multiple times. The business school is the "Lewis College of Business"

But now they are going to make it a part of the "Brad D. Smith Schools of Business". Note the plural.

Baseball: Believe it when I see construction. Been down this path 200 times before.

Marshall must find ways to reverse the 20% drop in enrollment over the last 5 years. That has to change pronto.
We need to invest in more student recruitment and blitz an area within a 2 hour radius of Huntington. Try to find ways to be cost competitive with out of state schools in the area.

The key to MU growth is not losing money on out-of-state students. We already have two colleges that do that.

Rather the key starts with political leadership that has the courage to close the majority of our way too many state colleges. Several of which are so academically deficient it is virtually a fraud upon the students to tell them what goes on there is really college.

Closing other schools is never gonna happen Sam, regardless of how we feel or any evidence that may prove that to be the thing to do.

It is a lot better when you put the picture here, rather than linking to your dropbox.

Wow, if only you'd send such an idea directly to the AD/MU Presient's office.
Or better yet, give a Powerpoint presentation on this.

Not close, divide up amongst MU and wvu and allow them to take over said campuses.
Hell, there's your increased enrollment problem fixed a bit.
Also, they really should study and allow those (would be satellite campuses of MU) to educate what the region needs. Most likely healthcare and some forms of Trade School that can work toward a professional degree (like auto mechanics can go towards a mechanical engineering degree).

Wow, if you would only pass this along to the legislature and JJ. Maybe you should run for Governor. Or nominate yourself for a seat on the BOG. Lol!

You are correct. And we need to stop thinking that MU recruitment stops at the Cabell County line.

Marshall has always been in this sort of quagmire in terms of student outreach and recruitment... I came to Marshall from out of state in 2003. MU never sought me out (nor should they have, I grew up 8 hours away), I had spent some time in WV as a kid and liked the area hiking, fishing, golfing, etc so I knew a little bit about Marshall, and then started following the football team in the late 90's.

When I arrived at MU, I was in the vast minority... Everyone was either a WV native on the "Promise" scholarship, or if they were from out of state they were an athlete. Of my 7 suite mates, they were all WV kids -- 2 from Logan, 1 from Parkersburg, 1 from Grafton, 1 from Charleston, 1 from Moundsville and 1 from Greenbrier County.

Back then MU was all kids from in-state, and all parts of the state, but by the time I left Huntington in 2008 it seemed like Marshall had amped up its recruitment in Huntington/Charleston (the 64 corridor) but pretty much left the rest of the state unattended.

Be careful now Rhino, you're not toeing the company line. Hate to say it but OU and OU Southern kick our ass in terms of being visible at local events. Hopefully Brad Smith knows the importance of student recruitment - I think he does. I know he is pushing to build our online presence as well.

Another area I feel we abandoned was Eastern Ky/Southern WV. I have family in that area and back in the 90's you saw Marshall consistently along with WVU/UK. Now there is hardly nothing..... In fact most of the kids in that area are choosing Pikeville over MU.

Difference is, I'm not the one who groans on and on about why MU never changes, then runs and hides when the AD makes a public appearance.
You should consider sending him your ideas directly.

Student recruitment vs. student retention, I bet retention is cheaper and more important.
MU should focus on graduating its current students more than bulking the size of the classes.

Both can be done equally well. You are correct, get them on campus and keep them there. Smith spoke to that very subject in the recent edition of Marshall magazine.

I too was from out of state. I had connections to Marshall but I specifically remember them being at our college fair in charlotte. There’s no reason for them to not be at college fairs 5-6 hours away from campus

A timeline of 15 months (once they hire a developer) seems pretty ambitious... Playing on-campus baseball for 2024 would be a nice feather in the cap of both Smith and Spears. Interested to see what its going to look like.

They have till 2024 to get it done or else that $8 million from the city is going elsewhere.

They can do it in 15-16 months if they start the process now. High Point built their stadium complex in 16 months. They hired a firm and did the design/build process; as opposed to design and bid. Kept things on time and on budget.

On WRVC‘s “The Drive” show with Paul Swann, Spears said we need to raise $11 million dollars. If Huntington is providing $8 million, that means we have $1 million raised.

My question is, why is Mike Hamrick still on the payroll if he hadn’t accomplished enough in his new role to even be mentioned in the press release ?
