Yesterday on the news I saw that Charleston's mayor is making possession of injection needles illegal as drug paraphernalia. He said "let some other city have them," and I'm pretty sure we all know what city he was talking about. Huntington has all but rolled out a welcome mat for junkies. Free needles, free narcan for life. Hell, as ground zero, there is so much national attention on Huntington as a drug center, you may even get to star in a documentary.

Weeks ago, on NPR, Charleston was ranked #1 in the country for having the lowest percentage of adult binge drinkers. I was surprised by it. For once, a ranking that didn’t have everyone laughing at the state.

Listen, it is one thing for those us from WV to make fun of the state. But, we don't like New Yorkers doing it. The state gave you a chance to play ball and get an education. So, stick it.

You like New Yorkers so much that you moved to North Carolina to live amongst them.

Nobody is making fun of WV. I’m completely serious when I say it is an absolute shithole full of uneducated and morally corrupt morons.

The young people that are left are strung out on oxys and heroin.

That is because NY is a bigger shithole than WV. YOu just don't understand us. Hell, we fight like this at family reunions and then go to church and drink beer and then shoot shit up. Oh, and ride dirt bikes. We are perfectly normal.:) At least we are not a bunch of limp wrists from NY. What you don't understand is we can fight like this but if a New Yorker bad mouthes us we drop him like a dead weight.

I know plenty of New Yorkers and New Jersey families just like that. You would probably have a hard time hanging with them.

These needle exchange programs are infuriating. Huntington spent money on a curbside drop-off for dirty fvcking heroin needles! It looks like a mailbox, just beside the road by the Cabell-Huntington Health Department. Now we're encouraging these junkies to drive.

Let them all die. They are drains on society.

I attended a CPR class for work last fall. One of the medics who instructed is an EMT in Charleston. He told us he revived a heroin addict twice during one shift, saving some pathetic, relinquished life over and over.

I have two minds about this. I'm not sure which angle I want to take.

Both of which probably are along the lines of just let them die.

Just like minorities, Greed has never given a dime out of his own pocket to help drug addicts, but, as this thread continues, he is going to start in with, "why don't you cons support these needle boxes," and then provide some bullshit data from one of his favorite internet sources.

It's just becoming so cliche at this point with him.

No he’s given his money to rehab. It just involved saunas vitamins and auditing sessions

I think it was said in that Netflix documentary but if you're prepared to let them die, get ready to treat first responders for ptsd. Because they will most likely suffer psychologically knowing they're choosing to let people die. Especially given how over sensitive this generation is. I also know that if a member of my family died from a health issue while we waited for paramedics to revive a habitual heroin user, I'd probably lean more toward saving those who didn't bring death upon themselves.

Its funny because where he is from is no different than WV. Redneck country ass Upstate NY.

You think you hold the moral high ground on this board. You don't. You're just a narrow minded, judgmental prick.

This is curiosity, because I’m not really tuned in on the issue, but is there a trend or problem nationally of people not getting paramedic responses due to drug addicts being treated?

No it’s oaramedics responding to the same people 27 times for overdoses

I understand that. I’m just curious about Sam’s comments that...

I understand that sentiment. I just wondered if this is a widespread problem.

We went over this before and your attempt was blown away.

All except for two counties in New York (and there are 62 counties) have a higher per capita income than West Virginia, including Huntington. I am not positive, but I believe most of the counties were twice as high as WV's.

My city is home to a Fortune 500 company headquarters. There are numerous Fortune 500 companies in upstate NY. There is not a single one in all of WV.

Upstate NY had much higher percentages of residents with high school degrees, undergrad degrees, and graduate degrees.

Ask Marine- upstate NY is entirely different than West Virginia . . . in far better ways. West Virginia is not nearly as safe as your ultra-safe, wealthy town on Long Island, and it isn't as safe or wealthy as just about any county in upstate NY either.

nationally? not that i'm aware of - but an emt's time is one of the most valuable resources on the planet. i guess it depends on how many times it happens before someone decides it's an epidemic. hell, with fentanyl, just being in the same room can be deadly. police have to carry it for their dogs as well as themselves.

i had to call an ambulance for my dad last year at 6 in the morning. when i thanked them for getting there so quickly, they joked he was lucky that heroin addicts aren't usually up that early.

but i can speak somewhat to it in wv. i have personally heard it from emt's who were my clients. the problem is heroin overdoses tend to happen in batches because it usually comes from one pool until that supply is sold out,. the most visible examples were what happened in huntington and columbus a year or so ago. one bad batch will eat up an evening or two depending on when they do it

i never really thought about it until a motorist flipped out on corridor g and it took responders a while to get to him because they were dealing with a number of overdoses. i think it was in 2015. not sure if we wound up surviving

Ive been to Elmira and you havent been to my area. Aint nothing Ultra Safe or ultra wealthy about where I lived.

Ive been to Elmira

You haven't been to Elmira. If you had, you wouldn't be calling it farmland. It is far more of a ghetto. Even more telling was your repeated argument that NY's maximum speed limit is 55 mph. You claimed that it wasn't 65 mph anywhere in the state. You foolishly continued that argument even after I posted official state links showing numerous places where it was 65 mph. Then, Marine had to jump in to further call you out for being a moron since he lived in NY and knew numerous areas where it was 65 mph.

Had you really been to Elmira, you would have spent at least half of your 4 hour drive on a 65 mph highway. Stop lyin'.

Aint nothing Ultra Safe or ultra wealthy about where I lived.

Your town's per capita income is very high. The average housing cost is very high. Your town's crime rate is significantly lower than the national average and far lower than Huntington's crime rate.

That makes your town a wealthy and safe town.

Wealthy and Safe??? Like I said before stop looking at stats and go visit for once. You have plenty of time to do so.

Oh yea I forgot you arent from Elmira you are from Painted Post, a nice 25 min drive out the "ghettos" of Elmira to one of the highest pet capita areas in redneck ass Upstate NY.

Oh and by the way you will never find a 65 MPH speed limit anywhere on Long Island or in NYC or any of the cities in Upstate NY but im sure you will in your redneck and desolate area of NY.
