Feel bad for the kid. Hes in way over his head, but playing by necessity. Is there no one else they can try. Frankly, they couldnt do any worse. While thats an overused cliche, i really dont think its possible.
Thoughts?

I feel bad for him too

I hope he can just endure and improve this year. It's asking a lot to be on island one on one a few months removed from high school.

I also hope that we can refrain from personal attacks against him. He's is doing his best and at least he isn't taking his frustration out after the play by hitting people late and making it worse.

He's been scorched since the Akron game. While I feel bad for the kid, I want somebody else out there on an island other than him.

I think his backup is also a freshman.

The defense, as a whole, is just not good at all. This is 2012 all over again. We are going to have to just turn the offense loose and hope to outscore everyone. We get no pressure on the quarterback which make it harder on our inexperienced dbs.

He stink right now. But the kid plays his ass off. There will be a point when the light goes of for him. And when it does watch out.
Right now he is a deer in the headlights and his footwork sucks

But he is really really close to becoming a beast.
If you want to watch a kid grow and learn its this kid.

Funny thing. On one play the announcers were talking about what a nice play Jackson just made. Then the ref threw a delayed flag for PI. Replay showed, yes, Jackson was all over him. I appreciate his efforts. Am glad he is a Son of Marshall. Have to wonder who would be playing there if we didn't have him. Can't fault him under the circumstances.

Man imagine if AJ Leggett, Corey Tindal, Antonio Howard, Antavious Rowe, and Chris Williams-Hall was all still in the program. This secondary would be a lot different
The defense would certainly be much better. I'm not sure what Doc's issue is. He needs to stop trying to be such a hard nose to these recruits. It doesn't help him or the Marshall program. I know there are instances where you have to get rid of a player for major conduct problems but a lot of these guys are simply collateral ran off due to Doc's coaching style.

Let me just add that I believe Jackson will be a good one for us in time. He is an 18 year old true Freshman that has been thrown into the fire so he is going to make some mistakes. We can expect growing pains with him as well as the rest of the team. We will get better.

The defense played well in the 2nd half. Not sure what clicked, but except for a couple garbage touchdowns in the last minute and 15 seconds, Pitt only scored 3 in the 2nd half.

Chris Jackson will be fine. In four years most of you guys will be eating your words. Let the young man learn from playing experience. I'm a supporter of this young man. And o by the way, there is no comparison to the 2012 defense. Give them time Herdnation.

No one wants to give this team time. Spoiled again is what we are. I hate the young man has to be thrown to the wolves, it is what it is. I think all of us can say we wish there was better options in the secondary, but sadly there isn't right now. Instead of throwing the kid and a few others under the bus, we need to be more supportive. Hey I have not been happy with this team much this year, but I can also see the light. Running backs are getting more experience and improving, and at least the dbs wasn't getting beat by 10 yards last night. Are we still bad there, yes, but there is some improvement, gotta take babysteps one at a time right now. It does sucks, we all figured there was no way our d could regress that bad but really with graduation and departures, it is no surprise when u think of it. They will get better, playing UL and Pitt will teach these young youngins more than anyone believes.

The issue is that he will probably be off the team before he has a chance to make people eat their words.

Doc failed again in his depth chart coaching. This kid souldnt have to start and when a player has many bad plays he is replaced. Are the backups that bad? Never again will I skip fall football practice and count on others to give me info.

Doc has run off too many of our best recruits unfortunately. We are missing guys in the secondary that would have helped a great deal.

Doc has taken too many chances on kids that he hopes will toe the line and not be a problem. Then when they get into trouble he boots them.
The high attrition rate has to end if we are gonna move forward and be a better program. It's catching up with us.

I'd say ours is the highest in the country.

Does anyone know what our highest number senior class is under Doc's tenure (counting only players who initially came in on scholarship)?

Never mind, looked it up. Sixteen original scholarship seniors is the largest class Doc has had. That means his high water mark is having about 65% of an original class make through their eligibility. We've only had 11 play this year.

I am not gonna steal his thunder but Banker had a great post on attrition and class retention on another board. I wish he would post it here. Tells us all we need to know. Not good.

There is a reason why I didn't list Lang @sportsphantom1 all of the others should still be here
Tindal decided to enter the draft so he shouldn't be on there either. As for the others, 2 were straight stupid in their actions, 1 was a major injury, and the I'm not sure what happened with Howard who was penciled in as a starter at CB going into the Spring.

I never understood Tindal's decision. Its not like he was setting the world on fire, solid player but not one to wow ya.

I get the frustration and I am not saying Doc can do no wrong, but some of this is a reality of being a G5 program. We aren't going to get the highly rated slam dunk recruits because the P5 is picking most of them up. Programs like Marshall, ECU, USM, etc.. have to take chances on the perceived talent that has had some sort of stumble be it injury, academics, or a poor decision. We also have to take chances on the unrated recruit that we think has been overlooked. When you take chances, some of them don't pan out but some of them do. To my knowledge, neither Cato nor Pennington got much recruiting attention.

I think our lack of depth at secondary is a good example this year. Not sure about all the folks that are no longer here, but I will give the staff a little grace when they dismiss a player for behavioral issues. From what I read, Tindal was 22-23 years old and felt like he needed to go pro due to his age. Not that I agree, but that is what it is. I have no clue about some of others except for the one that was dismissed.

Funny, I was watching the replay of Appy and Ga St last night and Appy had a true freshmen CB that was tearing it up. The kid had great coverage and actually looked for the ball.
