Doc Gets to Stay Right?

The budget was cut to $25,000,000 this year, and that’s not substantial? Fire the AD and the head coach that’s going solve all the problems. Clean house. See how much it moves the needle.

So you have your Freshman (QB) learn an new offense under a new Offensive Coordinator? The whole philosophy changes. You have to have the right personnel (new kids). With a new cohort of players you have to have chemistry. That takes time. Fanatical Marshall fans should really be careful what they wish for, continuity to a young (QB) is important.
I would rather have a kid have 2 OC in their time with one of them being good then have the same bad OC his whole career and have continuity. Cramsey is not a good OC

If things are as bad as you say (they may be) then that is all the more reason Hamrick needs to go. He’s been at the head of this ship and if it’s sinking he doesn’t get to blame someone else.

You’re going to blame Hamrick because Covid-19 wrecked our budget?

That’s an interesting take.

we’ve been hearing that our budget is wrecked long before Covid. Look at the basic upkeep at the Joan that they never do. The reasoning “it’s too expensive”.

This is something that someone who is completely unaware would say.

The hottest of takes.

Do you have to swear allegiance to Hamrick and the athletic department to become a moderator here? Is it a blood oath or do you have to give them all your deepest darkest secrets?

Maybe he's not a good OC because his hands are tied behind his back and he has a patch on one eye.

You guys could get the next young and upcoming Coach to sign at Marshall. Nothing is going to change. Donors are not just going to magically write checks. Fans are not going to instantly get excited. It’s all trust. We as alumni and fans hear of a team fight during an undefeated season and ranked nationally. Some of us are not able to travel back to Huntington. So to watch the Herd we tune in to ESPN, CBS Sports, or Stadium. You lose meaningful games in Huntington. And expect us to get excited of a new young Head Coach?
What happens when a new coach has any type of success at Marshall..... Chump, Parrish, Donnan, Billy the kid...etc. Do not forget Pruett and Houston.

Yeah I would HATE to hire the next Chaump Donnan Pruetts Parrish or Billy Donovan in basketball that would be awful. ( in case people cant tell this was complete sarcasm.)

My two cents...

1. It is time for a coaching change in football... And I mean the whole staff... Do it now, while we still have a chance to develop Wells under a new regime. The program is on the same cycle every year – Put ourselves in position to win the division, and ultimately the conference, choke like dogs against (MTSU, Charlotte, Rice, etc) end up in a third rate bowl game (which we used to win at least, but have lost the last two). Someone said earlier in this thread that Doc has hit his ceiling, and I think that is a pretty good read of the situation. If you are happy with 7-8 wins and two head scratching losses every year, then by all means keep him on til he's 80. If not, and I think most aren't at this point, make the change now by simply not extending him. Do it in the next couple weeks, get a national coaching search going and see who is interested.

2. Hamrick hasn't been the issue... I don't know MH, we've met twice in passing. But he seems to have a pretty good grasp on running the athletic department. He has swung scheduling deals, not only for this year, but future years and he does the best he can within a conference that is run by the Keystone Cops. In my opinion, MH's biggest issue is his buddy system in football, where he and Doc are old friends and it clouds his assessment of the program. If Doc is not retained, that problem corrects itself.
