It's open season on dogs in my neighborhood. I posted last week about the noise from them, which has greatly subsided since I first complained, but today I had a German shepherd take a bite into my calf while I was running. It briefly retreated, then came back for more. If not for a jab to the side of its jaw, I am sure it would have taken another chomp of me. It broke skin and left a nice bruise of the outline of its teeth.

Months ago, I posted how I get annoyed that some dogs in the neighborhood have chased after me. When I see them coming, I usually stop running and prepare to treat their head like a soccer ball. Usually, at the last second, I start feeling bad for the dog and don't kick it in case it just is running at me to play. After today, no more. My leg is more important than its head.

Soccer season is a-coming!

If you really want to get the dog. Have the dog reported and owner reported. Demand a rabies test on the dog. They will put have him put down. Happened to someone I know. Their dog bit a kid. Kid went to sheriff. End of dog. Their lawyer could not even stop it They had to turn the dog over. They put him down. In their case, I kind of felt bad because the dog they think was actually playing.

People and their damn dogs are out of control. Sometimes they are not curt They are not people. I would drop kick that dog into next week if it did that. I would carry a lead pipe on my next run and bash his head in. A dog that does that and a dog that size is going to hurt someone.

Yeah, I called animal control. From my experiences with animal control with dog barking and watching how quickly they pick up the plethora of dead deer in our roads, I think they are a government agency that does a really good job.

The lady was a bit of a bitch about it, too. She started yelling that the dog had its shots, that she had just gotten home from work and it was chained up, etc. I told her the dog clearly wasn't chained up since it was able to run after me a house away and across the street. She yelled back that she had just unchained it when she got home . . . like that's some sort of relief for me.

Animal control was able to get me the surveillance footage from the house where the dog lives pretty fast:

Me neither. I don't want the dog put down, but I do want something to happen to owner. Hell, I had to cut my run short, use peroxide and some gel shit, and got my bathroom floor wet cleaning it . . . not from tears . . . well maybe a little bit from the tears.

But seriously, having to use things I bought, cut my run short, and worry if your dog has all of its shots, because you can't keep your fvcking dog on a chain/leash? She needs to get punished. If I had been a child walking down the street, I can't imagine where that dog's bite would have landed.

Mashsllisqbu would know better than me, but I’m thinking the boards answer to a puncture wound dog bite is antibiotics.

Fvvvvvvck! I treated it like a rattlesnake bite and sucked all of the blood out of the wound area. I thought it would keep any bacteria from spreading. That's what I get for listening to the 12 year old next door.

I’m sure you would.

I know you’re kidding and you’ll probably be fine with peroxide and neosporin or whatever.

Just don’t mess around if its not healing well.

I’m sure your immune system is primed since you expose it to plenty of new “challenges “ for it enough :). A dog bite should be no thang compared to what it sees on the weekend.

Ha, thanks. Appreciate the advice.

Animal control went to the house of the dog to get info then came to my house to take pictures. They automatically quarantine the dog for ten days. If the shelter has room for it, they take it for a minimum charge of $120. If they are full, as they are now, the owner has to pay $350 to have it quarantined for ten days at a vet's office.

The woman at the house of the dog said her husband has the papers for the dog, so they have until Sunday evening to produce them. I explained that I usually don't kick a dog that chases me while running because I start to feel bad at the last second. The animal control officer said I was crazy- he said if a dog ever chases you while running and forces you to stop, if there is even a little question as to its intentions, regardless of its size, do whatever you can to stop it from getting close enough to hurt you. He said if he had even a slight hint that the dog may be coming at him to bite him, he would not hesitate to kick the dog. He said a person cannot feel bad for protecting himself even if he isn't positive the dog would bite him.

I was surprised to hear that coming from an animal control officer.

CR89 will question the officer's comments.

My dogs are always leashed when outdoors. That said, I truly believe their only danger is licking someone to death. They are extremely friendly and loving, as one was raised to be and the rescue just seems damn thankful she is now loved. They are rock stars here, people come outside to pet to them.

I did have to hit a dog earlier this year. We have rules here, small dogs only. Some of these fvcking people sneak and ignore it. Some dumbass here has a large dog and he let it out his back door without a leash to shit, I was out there with my Pom and it attacked it. My dog's leashed tripped me, his dog was on mine, and I just reached out and slugged the shit out of it, that's all I could manage to do. That slowed its roll. Dumbass guy just stood there watching, didn't apologize or even say a word. I told him his dog is a little big for here, especially with all the seniors that walk their little dogs, and if it happened again I was going to knock him out instead of his dog. He still just looked at me. What a dumbass. Irresponsible dog owners suck. Thankfully his mutt didn't hurt my dog. I've seen him out since then with it on a leash, neither him or his mutt will even look at me, I guess they both got the message.

When I run, I generally get harassed by a few dogs. I have often envisioned myself choking the life out of one after it attempted to bite me. Most of the time, they just bark. Occasionally, one will get way too close for comfort. I wouldn't care to punt one either.

The neighbor's dog attacked my kid when he was around 5. I was at work and got the call to meet at hospital. When I left hospital I was heading home to shoot said dog. By the time I got there, my FIL had already done it. Pissed me off, wanted to kill it myself.

Yup, I like dogs, but people need to keep things in perspective. A dog is an animal and never worth a human life. The most tragic thing to have to hear is a child getting killed by a dog.

If I were running in a neighborhood where careless dog owners didn't leave them secured, I would keep a canister of mace and give the bastard the whole bottle, sprayed into its eyes, ears and mouth. That should buy you enough time to figure out what you want to do next.
