This is the 5th Local mid-major we didn't seriously recruit and lost out on in the past 2 years. Davidson, DePaul, Liberty, Akron, and Illinois-Chicago all have came into WV and snatched basketball talent that is within our region of the state.

Davidson - excellent academics, solid program with a history of success, great coach, great location/area and Steph Curry is an alum. Yeah, can't believe he chose that place.
I don't think he had much in Dixson, either.
We had almost no shot with Cuffee.
Who did we lose to Akron? Don't remember that one.
A quick glance at the roster, and "we don't recruit WV hard enough" sounds kind of dumb.
Exactly. And within the past two weeks we've received verbals from WV kids for the 2017 and 2018 classes.
I'm happy for Luke, and really believe he made a great personal choice. Every kid has a different kind of game and has played against a different kind of competition. My bet is that he got a lot of coaching to head to a program where the objective isn't to score 105 points a game, run like crazy and pass the ball with effeciency. I bet is a more structured offense with fewer trigger points had a lot to do with the choice. Also, it's pretty close to home and although not so much in recent years, has a great academic reputation.
Only 2 kids on the roster was recruited straight out HS, the rest are transfers and walk-ins.
We need to put a wall around the Top basketball talent in the state. Yea WVU is going to get their share but no G5 or Mid-Major should be about to get a WV kid.
Face the facts, D'Antoni is a lazy recruiter who would rather golf instead of hitting the pavement hard for talent.
We didn't offer the head case that went to Illinois-Chicago so we didn't lose him. Frampton is a big loss as he fit our system very well as a SG, but we have landed a couple of good frontcourt players that are probably going to be just as important long term.
Cook and the kid that went to Illinois-Chicago were at the top of Fever's wish list. The problem was that neither fit our current system.
Yet a 6'8 350 Center fits our system??
Fact of the matter is this, D'Antoni doesn't compete for recruits, the moment they bring up other options he folds up like the cheap tent that he is and stops recruiting them or bad mouths them in Private.
I know our top recruit was 20 miles down the road and he didn't attend a single workout. Same kid took 2 straight unofficial visits while other kids was brought in on officials.

I remember you saying the 6-8/350 center is a beast so I'm not sure what you are complaining about. Keep in mind the 6-8/350 center will likely play at around 300 after they get him in the S&C program for a year. For a kid his size he has great feet and movement to go along with a long and wide body. What's not to like about that?
No offense, but Dikembe Dixson would fit Dan's system to the T............ to say otherwise basically means you don't know Dan's system.
a 6'8 Shooting guard who can run the court, handle the ball, and rebound..........
So did Nick Greely of Bridgeport, but again Dan didn't offer.

There is a very good reason we didn't offer Dixson--he is a head case and was not a team player based on everything I read.
We didn't offer Dixson for very good reasons and I will leave it at that. As for Greely, he is a decent player, but we already had Bledsoe and Williams as frontcourt players in the class so there was no room for another forward.
i believe we really liked greely, but were full and would've taken him if he would've agreed to prep for a year.
yep, this is what I mentioned above. Greely was 6-7, was big and thick and could shoot a three big-time

I'm not sure why that matters. He recruited Browning, Watson and Elmore to MU - and they're all WV kids.
West (2017) and Dillon (2018) are both WV kids, too.
Plus, Allison and Robinette are local-ish as well.
No I like him, just point out the hypocrisy between the recruitment of Cook and the recruitment of Bennett. They are essentially the same player
Yet he led UIC is every meaningful stat and is now the team captain as a Sophomore. You really need to stop ready message board material and taking it as gospel.
Like the 4 other WV kids, we stopped recruiting Dixson because he had options and didnt drop them automatically for Marshall. Its ok D'Antoni doesnt want to compete for recruits

Does that matter, the team sucks but he was still their leader and by far their best player.
I think the plan is Dan recruits to his system a lot like Beilien did which he brings in a bunch of guys that can shoot, pass, and handle the ball, but for the life of me REALLY don't understand who/how/why he is recruiting as big guys???
Honestly, go look at a video of the Robinette kid. He is a horse, 6-7 240ish and is a rebounding machine, but he is left handed and cant shoot a lick. I would think Dan needs big guys that can hit a three (aka Greely). Does Dan even know what he is looking for in big guys because this new kid is way different then any of the other bigs.
yes it matters, being the best player on a horrendous team doesn't mean you're good, it just means you're better than guys who have no business playing at the d1 level.
I haven't see a video that shows him shooting from any distance. Do you have a link I could access?
I rather like what I've seen from him to be honest. Nice touch around the basket and isn't afraid to mix things up. Reminds me of a more skilled version of Terrence Thompson - who will probably play the 5 for us this year.
Averaging almost 20 points a game and almost 8 boards a game would help us tremendously this year. Leadership in the locker room would be an added bonus.
Leaders show up when your at your lowest.
