This may be a bit tasteless for me to bring up under the circumstance, but why should that stop me now?
Former wvu coach Calvin Magee's wife was recently diagnosed with cancer. Of course, best wishes to her as she fights through this. However, there has been a GoFundMe account set up to help pay for her treatment. Her husband played four years in the NFL and possibly has an NFL pension. But besides that, he has spent the last 25 years in state employment positions making a hell of a salary.
He was making well into the six-figures at wvu, and then continued to make a high salary at Michigan and Pitt.
He then spent six years at Arizona. His salaries over the last chunk of years?
2014: $400,000
2015: $520,000
2016: $520,000
2017: $520,000 (possibly higher)
2018: $225,000
2019: $375,000
The guy is over $2.5 million in these six years and made great money for more than a decade before that. This is all tax dollars. Is there really a need for a GoFundMe to pay for his wife's treatment? Is that how we as a society show our support these days - just throw some money at people?
