Sitting here watching the battle between Northern Iowa (10) at Wichita State (11) for The Valley Championship. The 10,505 seat arena is alive with Black & Gold. The Shockers have about 14,550 students...very similar to Marshall. Like Danny said when he was introduced as the new Herd Hoops coach..."I look at Wichita State's program and I say why not Marshall."

I agree and I hope God grants me more time to see Dan's goal come to fruition. Perhaps a series with the Herd & Shockers might happen? Dan & Greg are close friends.

Valley Champs....74-60....cutting down the nets for the winningest colleg team in America....great win Greg.

Wichita State has greattach attendance for basketball because the area and Kansas in general loves basketball. That, coupled with a consistently good team equals high attendance.

It would and could be awesome for large crowds to watch The Herd play, but we'll just have to wait and hope.

Not that it matters, but for what it is worth he had an interview scheduled with Dr. Kopp in Charlotte 2 days after Donnie Jones was hired as HC...... he called me that day and said, I guess I don't need to wait on that interview, huh. MU never called him to let him know.... oh well!!!

Gregg can be a handful for sure, but he has been and will be ultra successful where ever he is....... College of Charleston (where he started his career) missed the boat on him twice.

Danny is getting it done on the floor and in the stands, if he can bring in the type of athlete he needs, things will be great!!!! and fun!!!!

You just don't treat people that way. That is very disappointing to read. I hope Mike is much better at etiguette and respect than Marcum was while he was here. I agree with your comments concerning the future of the program and think Dan has us on the right track. It will be some exciting bball that is for sure.

Hey Shoe....great to HERD your post. I called Greg yesterday after the Shockers impressive win. Of course it went to his voice mail.....most likely it was "party time."

I first met Greg during one of Dan's Beach Ball Classics in Myrtle Beach. He was still at Charleston. Class guy. When he became Winthrop's coach he would invite me to bring two grade school boys I was tutoring Math & English to his practices & games. Greg is VERY hands on and he was all over the court TEACHING as his assistants watched from the sidelines. Greg was kind to the two boys, taking them inside the dressing room after games to be a part of an usual celebration. His kindness to them made their days.

Marshall made the correct selection bringing Dan to Huntington, despite some of the "youngsters referring to him as a 68 year high school coach." It's about Xs & Os...no matter what level. Pretty simple game...."you want to put more shots into your basket & not allow the opponent to put MORE in their hoop."

Spoke with Dan Friday evening...he sounded energized about the players "getting it now" and playing better leading into tournament time.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Marshall won the C-USA tourney in Birmingham? Dan would be happy because he will earn bonus $$$$$.

Shoe, you attending the Charlotte game next Saturday? If so, our local Alumni group & other (out of Charlotte) HERD fans are meeting around 5:00 PM at Macadoes, near the 49ers campus.

yes! it only took until the second sentence in Gary'S weeney's most recent post. and the rest of the post didnt disappoint.

im still shocked Gary'S weeney wasnt cast in the dos equis campaign as the most interesting man in the world.

Sweeney, I don't think Dan gives a shit about the money. He would be happy to win the CUSA tournament because we would have won the tournament, not because he'd be getting some chump change bonus.

Stay crazy, bud.

I get tired of White's naysayers. We had some nationally competitive games during his tenor, and 20 win seasons..He hired Gregg Marshall, but he couldn't pay him out of his pocket.

It is still almost unbelievable that back then,he was making less than the WOMEN"S coach. It's a wonder the assistants could buy groceries. It don't take long to go belly up,when you're broke......

Keep in mind that without football, basketball is THE main sport at Wichita and they put a ton of $$ into it. Our AD needs to not treat hoops like a second-class citizen.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that Dan wasn't capable because of his age. I think the question was more along the lines of, how long he would be able to keep going.

Finally, what is the over/under on how long until Gary claims he IS the guy in the beer ads?

How to Make Roux, Step-by-Step
Roux (pronounced "roo") is a thickening agent for soups and sauces with roots dating back more than 300 years in French cuisine.

Made by cooking a flour and oil paste until the raw flavor of the flour cooks out and the roux has achieved the desired color, a properly cooked roux imparts silky-smooth body and a nutty flavor while thickening soups and sauces.

18726.jpg

1. Roux can be made with a variety of oils and animal fats. They are commonly made with vegetable oil, olive oil, or clarified butter, but can also be made with bacon grease or other rendered fats. Since an oil-based roux will separate as the flour settles to the bottom, clarified butter is the preferred fat to use when making a roux for future use, as it will harden when refrigerated, trapping the flour in suspension.

There are four varieties of roux: white, blond, brown, and dark brown. The different colors are a result of how long the roux is cooked; white is cooked for the shortest time, while dark brown cooks the longest. White and blond roux are the most common, used to thicken sauces, soups, and chowders. Brown and dark brown roux have more flavor, but less thickening power than white or blond roux. These roux are primarily used in Cajun and Creole dishes, most notably gumbo and jambalaya.
Cajun and Creole Cooking
24354.jpg

2. Begin making the roux by melting 1 cup of clarified butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the butter is hot enough that a pinch of flour sprinkled into it will slowly start to bubble, proceed to the next step.
24349.jpg

3. Whisk 1-3/4 cups of flour into the clarified butter until a thick, rough paste forms. Whisk constantly while it bubbles over medium heat. As it cooks, the roux will become smooth and begin to thin.
24352.jpg

4. The white stage is reached once the flour looses its raw smell, after about 5 minutes of cooking and stirring. Although slightly grainy in texture, it is much smoother than it was at the beginning. The mixture is bubbling vigorously and the color is a little paler than when the clarified butter and flour were first combined.
24360.jpg

5. After about 20 minutes of continuous cooking and stirring, the roux will reach the blond stage. The bubbles are beginning to slow, and the aroma has taken on nuances of popcorn or toasted bread. The roux is now tan colored, very smooth, and thinner than it was at the white stage.
24353.jpg

6. Brown roux will reach a peanut butter-brown color after approximately 35 minutes of cooking and stirring. Its aroma is more pronounced and sharper than the nutty nuances of blond roux. The roux is now thinner, and the bubbling has slowed even more.
24348.jpg

7. Even darker than brown roux, the dark brown stage occurs after about 45 minutes of cooking, and is the color of melted milk chocolate. Its aroma will also mellow from the strong, roasted flavor of brown roux and will actually smell a little like chocolate. The roux is no longer bubbling, and is very thin.

Like us, Wichita, had a plane crash in the early 'Sixties. Seems like about 24 were killed? But they only lost half their team on account of traveling in two planes (Martin 404s, if memory serves me correct). However, they opted to drop football after that.

I agree with everything else though.....Dan is a great coach and great person. Just hope he and his assistants can recruit.

he has such tough skin that words on a message board have resulted in him making repeated physical threats over a number of years to posters on here. he has such tough skin that words on a message board have made him insist that he has retained an attorney to sue another poster and promised that the attorney is currently trying to find out who the other poster is and where he resides (that lawyer bill must be getting expensive as it has been five years now). he has such tough skin that words on a message board have resulted in him contacting his son and his son-in-law and using them as pawns by stating that they are willing to "beat-up" a message board poster on here.

how many times, daily, to you gooogle search me, Gary'S weeney?

if you did a better job stalking, you would have seen that my departure was basically stated in october or november after i posted about having unpaid wages in the tens of thousands (and not being the only one). ill give you a hint how football works: if your team has won back-to-back conference championships, if your team is one of only a handful to have finished ranked in the top 25 in back-to-back years, if the position you coach leads the conference in back-to-back years in major statistics such as pass efficiency, completion percentage, yards per attempt, etc., and if you have all of those same players at that position returning, you dont "get your ass fired," old man.

My memory might be 'off', but I think that 2nd go-round, GM had actually accepted the C of C job, then got cold feet & continued w/ Winthrop for another 2-3 seasons. To be honest, WSU might be the best possible fit for him anyway. The Herd or the Coogs woulda been a stepping-stone job for him. He could end up being WSU's coach K, though with less profanity.

Gary,

Not worth the effort trying to joust with some of these guys.......you know, the old saying about going into a battle of wits against someone half-armed.....often applies here.

They often don't have good arguements for their positions so they feel the need to attack personally. It's theorized by that People who do that also usually engage in other forms of cyber bullying and have general self worth issues of their own to deal with. Take a look at the current Curt Schilling episode......the term being applied is "Internet Troll"...... some people should take a hard look at what they write and post, all in the name of "fun"

Hey now, I'm not one of those people who thinks that ESPN is out to get Marshall and it's your fault. I do think Gary is a crazy person who's missed his meds since June 9th 1998, though.

And Curt Schilling is an asshole who has his own history of trolling people on Twitter. And he's a cheater who used steroids. And since he decided to make me notice/care, his daughter is a 6 at best. And I say that as a 2, myself.

Shoe....I will take your advice. My son reads the crude remarks directed at me and it upsets him to see his Dad attacked on HN. However, if I would ignore about five stupid folk's posts-----it would (in time) go away. I should read more....post little.

Jealousy abounds among some on HN.

Regards to your family...off to Myrtle Beach on business & returning in time to spend some time with Dan & The Herd Saturday.

"Bring on the HERD"....and beat the Charlotte 49ers.

I agree. Can you believe people have . . .

- promised that their son was going to beat me up
- promised that their son-in-law was going to beat me up
- promised that their attorney was tracking my identity to file a suit
- promised they were calling my employer to have me fired for mocking a poster on here
- told me to show up to a tailgate so they could beat me up
- told me to show up to particular Marshall baseball games so they could beat me up
- claimed I had homosexual relations with former teammates

crazy, huh?

you were talking about Gary'S weeney with that comment, right?

and similar to herdalicious' comment, I don't think you are the pompous, arrogant, self-serving prick that 99% of the rest of the board thinks.

That is impressive. That is a good pull there. It took him four times to get his comments correct in his response. Impressive.

Especially since I chose that date completely arbitrarily. This must be what its like to hit the high score in Skee-Ball.

I wonder if Sweeney's son knows about the "ignore user" option.

Excellent is an overstatement. But, White did do a good job while here. Most of our fans were too ignorant to understand how much of a step up in BB play it was from the SC to the MAC. White nearly won the SC his first season here, then played the rest of the way in the MAC. He had some good teams, just never quite got there and many of our fans never really accepted him back based on his limited resume when hired here.

I get using NCAA tourney and conference titles as a measure of excellence, but anything less is mediocrity? that's silly.

Dshoe, please. Gary is one of the worse Internet bullies on here he threatened me with physical violence in a thread. It had to be taken down. I am the first many times to say something when a poster attacks another. But everything he gets, he brought on himself.
