Hamrick on future scheduling

The fans can like it all we want , without a for real TV package from CUSA , well..draw your own conclusions.

The teams coming in will demand to be on Fox 1 , Fox 2, ESPN, ESPN2 or at least one of the CBS sports networks , its not going to mean all that much as well as if these games are being scheduled for 2024 and 25 as we saw earlier today with a conference member and North Carolina , on the other hand , maybe we will not be in CUSA when the games are played. We can always hope.

It was interesting on Sirus XM today. Jack interviewed Doc and Doc probably did his best interview ever. I'd say Doc felt very comfortable with Jack and you could tell Doc respected Jack as he was an old school college player.

Doc was very articulate and made great points and it's funny but Jack has been giving Marshall major props since Purdue. When the lines opened up a caller for Marshall says why don't we get respect.....Jack laid it out. You gotta schedule better. He noted WKY going to 2 other P5 schools this year, then he said Marshall has to too.

Funnier even was of course an idiot EER had to come on afterr all the Marshall love and started throwing smack at Pitt and then took of course a shot at Marshall. The best part...Jack cut the eerbilly off!!!! LOL!

Anyways I hope Hambone has found a few games with a P5 or at least a top 3 G5 ala Boise or a Cinnci.

I know this, that Sunday crowd made an impression! Keep it going Herd Fans!

You are so full of it...

That's next season. That's the one season we have a decent non conference schedule for several years.

2017 could be good with NC State and two MAC schools already on the schedule. An AAC or MWC school would make our OOC lineup respectable. Then again, an FCS would make it 2015-ish.

2020 is shaping up to be good as well. ECU, Pitt and Ohio are a nice start.

Too much uncertainty in 2018 & 2019 to guess much on how they'll end up. Maybe we'll know more in a few weeks.

If we are unwilling to visit P5 schools and accept a paycheck instead of a return visit then we are doomed to the boca raton bowl
I enjoyed the Boca Bowl more than any we have attended. I have no problem whatsoever going there. Unfortunately, it isn't an option this year so I'm going to Vegas to see Herd hoops in a tournament there the same week.

Hoping for some old CUSA rivals (UCF, Memphis), good G5 teams (Cincy, Boise, Utah St, NIU, ULL, BYU), or some regional-ish P5s (VT, another series with Louisville, UK, Tennessee, Penn St, Clemson, GaTech, ND). I'd even be okay with extending the OU series past 2020, but since that has a very good chance of happening regardless, I'd rather see some other series announced. I would really like to see extending the Louisville series - with 28 games, at least one a decade since the 50's, we have more of a history playing them than any other FBS team not in the MAC. And they're very close. And if we absolutely must schedule an FCS, hopefully it'll be a good FCS - NDSU, JMU, Montana, Youngstown.

Tampa and Miami are options this year around the same time, though.

Gotta say, I'm a little jealous about the Vegas trip. That should be a blast.

That's what we thought. IF we can get the access spot in the Peach Bowl, we will have plenty of time to get back and go to Atlanta. If we play Dec 26th in Dallas, we most likely will just go there on the way home.

I'm saying Sun Belt - Like the last time he said this, and it turned out to be Appy State.

Not true. MU beat writer tweeted in the morning that, "MU will be announcing a non-conference series this afternoon." By that afternoon some fans had convinced themselves we were on the verge of announcing a series with Bama.

I too, thought it was a good interview for Doc and Arute had at least been prepped well for it. Seemed to take a an interest. Lasted for probably 10 minutes or so. I was driving back from Alderson to Winfield so I got to listen to it and the feedback. I thought he was honest.

Doc seemed more comfortable than he does normally in these things.

I will agree with you on all points but the last one. FCS is a different bird, why schedule one that "might" give you fits or beat you? You gain nothing by it even if you win and lose quite a bit if you lose. So if you are going to play a FCS school, it should be used as a tune-up, aka very beatable. If you want competition then stick with FBS schools, at least you get a bit more credit for an akron than you would with a Montana.

The premise of your first post was that we were doomed if we don't play one and dones. Which is obviously false if you look at next year's schedule with 2 P5 teams that aren't one and dones.

Yes, some cant get past that we no longer have to give in to one and dones, so no more Georgia's, Florida's, Ohio State, etc. I would much rather have a 1 for 1 with the schools we have scheduled to date than the alternative.

The answer is simple: if you want to be the best, you have to play the best. The two best G5 programs in the country are BYU and Boise State. Schedule 1-1 with them. Plus we need west coast exposure if we want to be perceived as a national team. We also need to play a game abroad against anyone like UCF did last year against PSU. Finally, we have to win these games! The door is closing and our rep is 10 years old...

Also, we travel much better south than north. So we need to schedule winnable P5 southern teams like UNC, NCS, UVA, Duke and WF. Also, stop playing MAC schools. They are trap games! We left them and we should stop playing them. The Battle of the Bell is our past, not our future. Besides, we gain nothing beating them and lose much if we lose to them. We are still perceived as a MAC school.

Having said all that....we're probably going to announce a 10 game series with our "old rivals" Western Michigan and Akron. Those over 65 will be thrilled.

I hope the fans that want regional, close games are headed up to see us play OU tomorrow.
we sent tickets back. Hope that was because Ohio tried to put the screws to us. They were charging 40 for this game. A family pack of 4 tickets for a season ticket was cheaper.

You sound like a WVU fan. Keep Ohio, ditch the rest of the MAC

And that's fine if we don't want to be a nationally recognized or respected program. The boca bowl is fine if we don't have aspirations of bigger and better.

No, the premise of my first post is that if we don't accept one and somes we will have years like last year and even to an extent this year, where no matter how much we win or by how much it doesn't matter.

Yes, there are a few years where we have 2 P5 schools that aren't 1 and dones but that is the exception not the rule

I think it'll either be one of the AAC teams like ucf or someone who is beatable and terrible in the P-5, like UVA or Wake Forest.

However, I think, there's a slim outside chance it could be wvu.

I only say this because I read an interview with the interim president...and the final question asked was really out of the blue, but it went like this,
"What do you think about Marshall and wvu renewing their series?"
He basically said,
"I'd like to see it happen again, and we've been in contact with their new AD about scheduling them possibly in the near future as it's good for the state as a whole."
Take that for what its worth...but there's a possibility it could happen since wvu has absolutely ZERO rivalry games in the Big-12...Pitt and Penn State are scheduled in the near future but the only school to bring wvu their highest attendance numbers was Marshall (minus LSU and some of the Big-12 games obviously).
Also, if Dana is serious about dropping FCS, we could easily fill in the spot...and sign a series with them...and for us, dropping the FCS school as well.

I am not sure beating Pitt will impress anyone but at least they are in a P-5 conference. Kind of like beating Purdue this year. The big thing about the Purdue game was the atmosphere in the stadium. When more P-5 schools come in that will only get better. Louisville would be a good win. Playing Ohio each year is ok for the older alums because it is our rival, but it does us no good from a national respect point to play them when our league schedule is so weak. We need to play only P-5 schools in non league play to gain a little more respect in the national audience.
