HUNTINGTON - Effective immediately, Huntington firefighter Shane Masters has been suspended without pay pending further investigation.
"Due to the severity of his charges, we firmly believe exigent circumstances exist as outlined in the civil service regulations of the state code to suspend Mr. Masters without pay," Fire Chief Carl Eastham said.
The investigation could eventually result in termination. If that occurs, Masters will have an opportunity to ask for a post-disciplinary hearing administered by three members of the Huntington Fire Department, as outlined in state code. One member is appointed by the Fire Chief, one is appointed by Huntington Professional Firefighters Association Local 289 and the third member is chosen by the two other appointees.
The post-disciplinary hearing board's findings can be appealed by either party to the Huntington Fire Civil Service Commission. The Commission's findings also can be appealed in circuit court.
