Here goes...today's shooter, I locked that thread and said it hits close to home. This young man was a star athlete at the "rural" high school in my county. I say "rural" because today it's more like the rich suburbs, but out in the country. His father was the basketball coach there. Tons of people knew this young man, and EVERYONE knows his father. His father is one of the nicest people you could meet. This is beyond shocking. The young man = all American kid, popular in school, hell of a basketball player, went to Alabama for college. This shit is wild, and will absolutely rock a whole community on my side of the river.

And don't be surprised if something comes out about CTE. Dude played hoops with a helmet of sorts, he had that many concussions in football.

I watched this young man play ball many times, and like most of the community I know his father. You have to understand, in Indiana a winning basketball coach is bigger than the politicians lol. My roots are as deep up on the hill as in town, mom and dad went to the old high school before Floyd Central was built.

Knew the town was bordering New Albany, so was surprised you weren't talking about it.

I paid attention to the news long enough to know what happened, then turned it off. I just felt sick at my stomach, had that feeling of dread one gets from such an event when it is too close to home. You can check with Keeper, I didn't even post on FB about it until close of business today....after I found out who the shooter was, it is just shocking.

I think most of us know or are Atleast familiar with someone who has killed someone(s) else. My parents had a contractor who they had doing roofing etc in the summer when I was a kid so obviously I was out there in and around his crew while they worked. Dude then murdered a kids dad in the grade below me at the guidance of his mom thinking he was going to get that sweet vag with the husband out of the way. He was caught and spent 20 plus in state pen. When he got out of prison he got back into contracting and my parents were due for roofing so they had the roof updated again. Meanwhile the dad of the husband who was killed moved in down the road and my dad was chumswith him.very strange dynamic but the town is small. I questioned my rents hiring a convicted murderer to work at their house. I guess it is a tad different then a murder suicide by cop like these last several since it was for Vagina and not some sort of demented revenge.

I find the rate of occurrence of young black men killing each other to be a moral outrage; however, I believe the professor is correct in assessing public sentiment on that issue. We "expect" people to get shot in the hood (and we assume they were all doing hood shit), which assumes majority minority, we don't expect people to get shot at work or at school, of any race.

We can discuss factors behind black on black crime all day, but one of my working theories is the de-industrialization of America has had a profound impact on urban America, same as it has had on semi-rural America.
