If anyone has a chance to crash the party, this team and this year seems to be the year for a G5 to get a shot. However, I would say they will still be a day late and a dollar short when the 4 are chosen. So that begs the question of all the fuss over realignment. Outside of tv contract money is there a real argument for moving around between the G5 or soon to be G6 conferences? If there is no real chance of ever playing for a NATTY in football then what's the point? With espn bleeding subscribers and online viewing taking over, what will the future look like for the revenue streams? I'm not saying that we should sit idly by and watch C-USA sink but what if we don't get an invite to the SunBelt. What if we are stuck in C-USA. Maybe just maybe being the best we can be and fielding a quality team will keep us on the radar.

Playoff expansion is the key for any G5 program, with any hopes of ever making a playoff.

Conference affiliation is, and always will be about making a buck. It ends there.

As for Cincinnati, they probably still need some help to get in. Oklahoma wins out, they're in. One of several B1G teams wins out, they're in. Keep your eye on the SEC. If Alabama wins out, assuming Georgia's only loss would be to Alabama in the SEC title game, both of those teams are likely in. So, they need help from one of the following scenarios: Alabama losing again, Oklahoma losing to anybody once, or for no current B1G contender to win out. All of those scenarios are possible, and at least one is likely to occur.

If ND and SMU both finish 11-1 with their only losses to UC that would help them but may not be enough. UC played with UGA to the last play of the game in last year's Peach Bowl ,which was essentially a home game for the Dawgs and UGA currently ranked # 1 has essentially the same team they had on New Years Day, UC could beat them if they played this Saturday, IMHO. But I expect the politics of the playoff system to screw the Bearcats!

It's a totally rigged system from the start. If I was on the committee, I would never vote for a G5 to make a four-team playoff. I don't know if Cincinnati isn't one of the top four teams in the country this year; I'm just saying that their schedule doesn't allow for them to prove it. People are actually touting the win against Indiana as though it means something. I mean, if Rice went undefeated this season, they would have wins over Arkansas, Houston, and Texas. That would be impressive. But, let's look at, say, Arkansas. They have wins against Texas and Texas A&M already. But they lost to Georgia, Mississippi, and Auburn, and still have Miss St, LSU, Alabama and Missouri on the schedule. Is a 7-5 Arkansas team better than an undefeated Cincinnati team. The problem is that there is no way we can know that, and Cincinnati can't prove it with their schedule.

Look at the reminder of Cincinnati’s schedule.
Navy 1-5
Tulsa 3-4
South Florida 1-5
#21 SMU 6-0
ECU 3-3
They will slowly drop each week.

Strength of schedule and failure to win a Big 6 bowl last year will torpedo any opportunity. There is already a movement to discount their biggest win by saying ND is having a down year.

College football used to mean a whole lot more than one team wins the national championship and every body else is a piece of s***. There used to be a lot more measures of having a good year.

Those were better times.
College football is just not for you these days. You should go to Walmart and get a shirt for another sport. You’ll never be happy following college football.

But you know how it can be proved? Who the best team is vs just speculation, hype and being told team A is the best? Every conference champion in the playoff seeded by ranking/Sagarin/etc and then round out with at larges

keep in mind, the G5 voted autonomy to the P5 just to get a single New Years Day game. The playoffs are totally controlled by the P5. The NCAA has nothing to do with it. With the P5 calling the shots and picking the voters, they have zero incentive to give up a share of the playoff money

Personally, if you play a FCS team at any point during regular season that automatically disqualifies you for a FBS playoff birth...

I’m pretty sure Navy Tulsa South Florida SMU or ECU could beat Mercer

That would eliminate Georgia, Alabama, Cincy, Oklahoma, Oregon, Michigan State, and Ole Miss.
Yeap........... many others also.... toughen up your schedule or be excluded. You shouldnt be able to be voted into a 4 team playoff and your playing teams from a completely different division.. sad

LOL as if Marshall will ever be in a 4 team playoff... I loved Marshall since I was born but, keep dreaming...
It has nothing to do with Marshall going to the playoff. If the requirement is no teams from lower divisions then the it’s not a far leap to say that in order to make the playoff then teams only need to play other p5 teams. Smaller teams take those games as paydays and they would essentially lose those money games

First P5 or G5 isn’t FCS... I say this again, my stance is, if we are going to stay with a VOTED on 4 team playoff then you must complete your schedule with ZERO FCS team listed......

we flip what your saying that mean we can also allow a P5 school to only play FCS teams on a OOC schedule and still be VOTED into a playoff...

look it’s simple play a strong OOC schedule to make the playoffs or expand the playoffs to host conference Champs and such....

No what I’m saying is that if you say you can only play fbs teams the. The next argument would be you can only play p5 teams. I mean p5 teams would mean a stronger strength of schedule.

Sure... they could have that right... your stuck on a money problem now, thinking that Marshall football or schools of that type would disappear over time.

If P5 teams wanted to only play P5 teams and only themselves get VOTED into a playoff then they could, at least they would be playing a full schedule of FBS teams but it would be easier to just schedule a lower FBS team then to try to play a top FBS team..

I’m simply saying play FBS schools only to be VOTED into a 4 team playoff. If you want to play FCS teams the best you could finish is 5th...
