Danny, if you read any of the posts here on Herd Nation I would like for you to get totally involved in the seating arrangements especially for our students and also for our viewing audience on TV. Could you please "somehow" (even if you have to go against the grain....) have the students sit on the opposite side of the main camera feeds so that our future excitement at home games is projected in a positive manner to the viewing audience (look at Duke as an example for games shown on TV).
Thank You,
Always The Herd (graduate of Mullens High School with Mike)

Absolutely 0% chance of this happening. Though I do like the idea, and it would look good on tv and add some excitement to the atmosphere. This isn't Coach D's decision to make.

the re-seating that was done this year is in effect for 5 years. That would be the earliest any change can be made.

Just have Gary tell him. They are like third cousins, twice removed on their step father's grandma's side.

Always The Herd +1. It can be changed. The students need to be under both baskets, first come first served, and in the pie section back right of the team bench. Students should get in free with ID and concessions half price. Bring in local HS groups for halftime and have HS student sing National Anthem. During the break, bring in HS pep bands to play. This is called marketing and student recruitment! After half, invite nosebleed down to empty chair aback seats. Get rid of music dude and send him Bluefield Single A Baseball team where we apparently got him. Get a friction' coordinator to coordinate games band, cheerleaders and music due are in sinc and not competing against each other. Jr. High is what our NBA coach and his NBA assistants and our players are experiencing! Tacky! Cut BB ticket prices above the chair backs.....and concessions. Last night we made a comeback with a couple of minutes left, the fans started to cheer, the opposing coach calls time out. the cheerleaders try to start "Let's Go Herd" cheer but were drowned out by the music guy who plays "Jump On It' as if we were in the 7th inning stretch at a minor league baseball game. Pathetic! the whole mood was lost.

When you're drawing 800 - 1,200 fans a game in a 9,000 seat arena, can't you just sit wherever you want?

Too bad it's not like back in the 80's. As students we had seats initially behind the visitors bench and from one end of the court to mid court. We had to get to games an hour before tip just to get seats. Later they moved the benches and we were behind the Herd bench.

HerdInsider, that is not what the OP suggested. It read like he suggested moving the students along the sideline in some of the premium seats.

Additionally, I don't think dividing the students into 3 separate sections is the answer to the problem either.

this is what I said:
"have the students sit on the opposite side of the main camera feeds so that our future excitement at home games is projected in a positive manner to the viewing audience (look at Duke as an example for games shown on TV)"
~
Now to explain in more simpler terms: Do not put them under each end of the court and do not put them "behind" the cameras in the upper seats. The TV audience needs to see excitement at the Cam (not a bunch of older persons like me sitting in their chair). The cheerleaders need to be on the same side as the students as well.

Danny, if you read this... please put a product on the court worth watching. Then we will discuss where the students should be.

the lower bowl has been 80%+ full or so (minus the student section over break) for pretty much every home game.

Come on redsfan.....ROME was not built in a day.....some of you "wanna be coaches" need to give it a rest!

I am a bit queer? You are the one that likes to tell other guys on here that you are their "herd daddy". That is more than a bit queer.

Maybe that is why you plied those underage pledges with alcohol. Then you could call them their "KA Daddy".

I was in the 2nd row behind the visitors bench the night Huck almost came to blows with the opposing coach at the MMI.

The environment during those years was amazing!

if anybody thinks that the students are the ones leading the cheers then they are sorely mistaken. our student support for the bball team is pathetic!!! no more than 50-100 attend at best

Redsfan,
I was going to say something about the Reds needing to be worth watching, but that would mean they'd have to win...and they'll never do that.

This is a great idea about putting the student section right in front of the camera.
The students, unlike the fans and old people, don't complain about participating in a color schemed game or about being too loud.
I think this separation is perfect because honestly, there's such a generational gap between students and locals...and the older locals are so fickle and refuse to do anything that incorporates "new" and "style" because they're scared it might actually work, that they need to be separated.
I'd put the casual and often energetic fans under the baskets. They can still heckle the crap out of the other team and make noise.
The rest of the overly conservative fans and the old ones, can sit on their own, on the other side.
It's not like the place is overly large and so different on either side that it couldn't be done.

Finally,

Sell booze in both. Possibly have it so one side sells it...the student side and the ones who want to purchase alcohol. If you're stuck on that side and don't want booze, it means;
1. The tickets are sold out and there's no room.
2. You're a fickle idiot for not wanting to change your seat location and probably complain, "I can't see from the other side!"

Change the student section, it deserves it. In fact, it rewards those who actually make an effort.
