Lmao at Huffs contract

Huff must have really hated it here.
Frustrated Headache GIF by Kelly Clarkson

After reading the Athletic article, it sounds like we parted ways mutually. Pretty interesting read.

The truth is he left/got booted from one school and ended up at another one just like it in the exact same kind of town.

The people there are like the people here and he will treat them the same way until he can get out.

Forgive me...

He's never hung around for very long anywhere. That is a personality disorder.

You may not want to know Coach Gibson said something like, "House #16 is my last house" or something like that.

Oh, and it's not a personality disorder...by any means.

CH spent four years looking for the next step up. Never an interview. Finally took a side step, which is really a step down in terms of resources considering the huge shadow of the SEC he now play under. No one really cares about USM in Mississippi.

He is gone. We improved to a quality human being with character and dignity, something the cabal who hired CH forgot was important.

At least MH tried to warn us.

Not sure if it applies, but many schools supplement the HC's "government" salary with one from the boosters or a media deal for his talk shows. Huff may get more than the contract, but I am not sure if that wasn't true here for him, or for Coach Gibson coming in?

Not sure if true, but some are reporting that we structured the offer so that Huff had to refuse it, so that he would leave. That's our right to do that.
To me it doesn't matter, if the President and AD don't want you there, and you don't want to be there, then it is a win-win for all. We get a coach we want, the new guy wants to be here, and Huff gets a raise to go somewhere else. The only people hurt are players that stayed, and fans expecting to see us in a bowl game. Our administration is playing the long game. That's not a right or wrong move because no one can predict the long term returns. I would be curious to see if they see this transition as a high risk, high return move or just where they are on both sides of the equation. Huff actually played a low risk, high return game. He gets a decent contract for a number of years, and if successful in turning a program around, can stay there or move up. If he doesn't he gets to bank a lot of dollars and go be an assistant somewhere else.
I have friends and acquaintances that are life-long assistant coaches at power schools. Thay have championship rings. They never wanted to be head coaches because of the pressure and the inability to actually coach players, versus lead a team.

No doubt.
But the hangup wasn't really the 50k difference. From Huff's POV, it was the terms of the buy-out.
From Smith's and Spears' POV, it was Huff's actions.
Does Huff's new contract with USM include the same no buyout clause that he apparently demanded with us?

I would think smaller schools simply can't afford to agree to such demands.

How is air a reach. You were insinuating that he's been all over the place and never stayed anywhere long term. He's moved 16 times that doesn't mean he's been to that many schools. In fact in 30 years of coaching he's been to 10 different schools. In huffs 20 years he's been at 11 schools.
So being at 10 schools instead of 11 is somehow better?
Longest place he's been is wvu from 2001-2007.
His coaching path isn't much different.

But keep telling yourself other things 🤣

Stop it.

Huff is G O N E. He was a .600 coach, and a sanctimonious, rude, condescending, guy who thought he was doing the world a favor by being here. He was looking for a job the day he got here. He never got even an interview anywhere else, and now is moving over, actually down, to a nothing program. He is G O N E.

Our new coach SAYS he wants to be here. I, for one, am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Now, if he does BP level things, and they waive intergenerational wealth at him, then I will wish him well, but until that happens, he says he wants to be here. Leaving all that aside, I am not going to play the "but Huff...." game. Huff didn't want to be here, and was a .600 coach. We are lucky to be rid of him.

Actually, all of the hate on Coach is born of the same place the Doc hate came from. WVU hate. The Appalachian mentality that nobody from here can actually be smart. And the petty jealousy that some kid from Van High and Glenville State makes more money than you.

Stop it and support Coach 100%.

Junior, if you are going to repeat the Spamite troll's rantings, at least get it right. (S)He, without any basis claimed I was a fan of New Mexico State. Not New Mexico. Gee, you are dumb.

How about this. I will give you the same challenge I gave the Spamite troll. Link to one post of mine about NMSU and my fandom for it, or STFU and admit that you, like the troll you try to ape, are a liar and a fool.

I thought you were a fan of their baseball stadium.

So, anyway...

When is New Mexico's bowl game?

His buyout with USM is structured at a far lower amount than dollar for dollar. It’s been posted elsewhere.

If he wins 6 games in 2025 my guess is he’s running for the door.

In theory, but the big question is, why didn't his success this season serve as springboard into something, anything better than a 1-11, perennial bottom feeder?

He checked all the boxes this year, so there must be something about his resume, personality or contractual demands that other schools are saying thanks, but no thanks.

This was a really light year for open positions at the P4 level. UNC, WVU, Purdue and UCF are the 4. He picked a bad year. Two of those went the nostalgia approach and UNC wasn’t going to take him over Bill. That left Purdue, which hired a guy with back to back championship game appearances.

If he gets USM off the mat next year and there are 10-12 openings, someone will ignore the blemishes.
