Marshall is Absolutely Pathetic for Withdrawing

Marshall won't move the needle on this. But ESPN will. You can claim these bowls mean nothing but they're still valuable for TV and that's why they exist. Once that revenue starts to dry up because games are getting canceled or you have a bowl where there are major injuries from 5th string kids having to play, things will start to change. I think they probably were headed that way already, this probably just speeds things up.

ESPN, is evil, and it is run by idiots. Those two things are not incompatible. ESPN, and its quasi-competitors, spent a fortune on regular season college rights. The playoffs make these games less meaningful. SEC 1 vs. SEC2? Result doesn't matter, they will both meet in Atlanta, and both make the playoffs. Meaningless. Then they came up with these pointless playoffs, playing deep into the winter, and against the NFL, and, BTW, against the college and pro basketball and hockey ESPN also just paid a fortune for. And the net revenue for all of this will be less than ESPN was making from all the bowls, which will now die out over the next 5 to 7 years.

The analogy here is to the playoffs in minor league baseball. No one cares, and, mostly its not even the same players. The MLB calls up all the good players at AAA to the 40 man roster when rosters expand after Labor Day, and the AAA championship is mostly the two teams AA and A players playing. That is what ESPN has created with this garbage. Look at FSU last year, and look at us, and a lot more teams, this year. If you don't make the playoffs, you try to get a new deal for the next year and sit out, and all the seniors sit out to get on at the NFL, and the bowl game is a meaningless deal between bench warmers.

We just disagree, I don't think it was the right decision at all. Those 32 players without snaps had as many practices as those who have/had played. They may be even more invested in the program as they gave of themselves all these days with no on-field reward; they deserved a chance. And as for the coaches, we have so many assistants to the assistants, etc. that no one wille ever be able to convince me we couldn't have practiced and played the game with that staff.

Further, we've never shyed away from a fight, the potential score would have been no worse than many thought the potential score at OSU this year was going to be. And it is my belief that Army would have taken the chance to reward their no-players with some playing time if they got up on us to the point they could do that.

And your opinion that no Marshall fan would have wanted to see the kind fo game the limited team would have produced is a repeat of your opnion of the game, because many others' posts indicate the opposite opinion; many would have wanted to see us in that game, regardless of the score.

A reset from Huff, and a dumpster fire with this bowl issue are two completely different issues. You don't have to dumb the baby out with the bathwash to get a reset on one person. I don't think fans want a reset from a 10-3 season, one person isn't a program.

I would encourage you to look up the pictures of the football banquet dinner the other night. Including parents, coaches, players, and staff looks like you had about 60 people in the room total.

I’ll stand by my opinion. Also knowing one of the coaches (who I will not name here) this was the right decision. We would have been fielding a high school level prepared team.

This wasnt a reset with 1 person. This became a reset with almost everyone inside the football organization. This has also served to begin the conversation about portal reform. Marshall will never be given credit for starting the reform process but I can tell you, Brad has been blowing some people up about what has been going on and pushing for change.

In the future expect more P4's to fill in.

The NCAA won't budge unless the SEC tells them to and even then, it's unlikely they'll be able to regulate something so rampant.

Do you really think there are P4 programs that would be so in love with a majority of our kids that they would guarantee them (before the portal opens) X amount of dollars to jump ship before the portal opens. Is it possible with some? sure. But so many that we have to sit out a bowl? no.

Move the window. Its a simple solution to a created problem.

It won't matter if is Marshall. It will matter when it effects the playoff contendors and big schools. Even the playoff is not done real well. They lopsided one bracket and the other bracket is weaker. When will they listen? The day Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, etc are effected by it. It didn't even matter last year when FSU had a worse problem than Marshall did and they were undfeated. Went and got crushed by 66 or something like that and Georgia could have literraly scored 150. The day it will change is when they have a playoff game or semifinal game and 30 guys from Ohio State don't play. They literally took the hometwon 5 and 7 team as our repalcement vs Army.

I know reading comprehension isn’t “your thing” but the P4 can’t sign them before the transfer window opens. So if you move the window, players aren’t transferring to P4 before the window opens. You have enough kids to play in your bowl.

There are quite a few people outside of Marshall (including the "big programs") complaining about the timing of the window. So I'm not sure what this comment is meant to communicate... I know you think Marshall is the bottom rung of all of human existence but some of us like our university and believe it can be part of the change going forward. We were simply having a discussion on how to fix the problem, the easiest solution for everyone was to move the window.

Huff wanted a reset from US. He made that choice. From someone who took a lot of shit on here, supporting Huff fully through last season, it became apparent to me towards the end of last season he didn't want to be here. Period. Marshall wasn't given much of choice but to move on from him as this season came to a close. He was looking for a ticket out of Htgn by ignoring contract extensions he was offered earlier. Marshall acted accordingly. My discussions with folks "in the administration" were telling. Huff's intentional attitudes and his lacking any semblance of loyalty to the program wore thin.

I dont feel I have the answer for all. I'm telling you what I know to be true and my opinion is based off that. Some are just too naive to fully understand what the University, the A Dept and the football program was facing as a whole due to this situation. DEPLETION. Coaches that had already made the decision to leave/left and 2 busloads of players that either left the program or hadn't stepped on the field in a game time situation all season. You want to play with a jock washer as a WR coach? An athletic trainer as a RB coach? A 3rd string TE at right Guard? Maybe a 4th string RB at QB??? Who wants to watch that? It would have been an epic disgrace for a team and school that deserves better after a conference championship.

The emotional decision would have been to play no matter what. Most emotional decisions are bad ones. Sometimes "working it out" means you stop, pivot and regroup. "Most of us" simply dont understand that concept. That's why "most of us" are usually wrong in their assessments.
