If Marshall wins, they play the winner of NC State vs. Georgetown. Georgetown is the #4 national seed (Marshall is #13). NC State is beating Georgetown 2-0 late in the match, so Marshall's path to the bracket final will be much easier.
So a team that can beat the #4 seed is an easier matchup than playing the team that was the #4 seed. Okay.

Yes, that is correct, and it doesn't take a lot of logic to understand it.
The national seed rankings are based on the entire season, the larger sample size. The result you are referencing is one game.
What is a better judge of a team's value- all of their games in the season or a single game? Exactly.
NIU beat Notre Dame in football this year. Which team would Marshall have a better chance of beating, NIU or ND? Exactly, NIU. Just because NIU beat them in one game doesn't make them a better team.

If so, I don’t know much about soccer, but since we were prepared to go on the road for the next match, we should indeed have an easier path on our pitch….
I guess Marshall Soccer will have to carry the torch for the state of West Virginia this year.
