Green is has been absolutely living in the backfield. Currently, he has 32 tackles, 9 TFLs, 7 sacks, 1 PD, and 1 FF.
Let’s start with one of the most important stats for an EDGE, sacks, with 7 sacks through 5 games, Green is on pace for (rounded to nearest .5):
12 games: 16.5
13 games: 18
14 games: 19.5
The current single season sack record is 17, set by Cecil Fletcher in 1987. If Green continues his pace, he will reach the Top 10 (he needs 19 total, 14.5 this year, 7.5 more than he has rn) in career sacks at Marshall by the tenth game. His 12 and 13 game paces would put him at 7th, and his 14 game pace would put him at 5th. It is important to note that no current player in the Top 10 played less than 3 seasons, and only Fletcher played less than 4, whereas Green would be doing this in 2.
Next is TFLs, Green currently has 9 through 5 games. (Again, rounded to nearest .5)
12 games: 21.5
13 games: 23.5
14 games: 25
All 3 of these would be good for Top 10 Single Season TFLs. 21.5 would put him 9th, 23.5 would put him 6th, and 25 would make him 5th. In terms of career TFLs, his 12 game place would leave him just outside the Top 20 at 30.5. His 13 game pace would put him at T-19th, and his 14 game pace would put him at 18th.
All in all, he’s on pace for
12 games: 77 Tackles, 21.5 TFL, and 16.5 sacks, 2 FFs, and 2 PDs
13 games: 83 Tackles, 23.5 TFL, 18 sacks, 3 FFs, and 2 PDs
14 games: 90 Tackles, 25 TFLs, 19.5 sacks, 3 FFs, and 3 PDs
Most of my conscious memory of Herd football starts with early Doc years and this is on pace to be one of, if not the best single season performance by a defensive player I can remember, and I’m just curious, where do you all feel this would rank among the best single season defensive performances.
