Omg how long ago was this plant announced. I remember hearing about the battle between the states for this plant many years ago. Then I was announced at least 4-5 years ago this was being built.

Jesus Christ dude it has its own wiki page with dates for your reference. No I’m pretty sure obama had nothing to do with it. It is all about the second largest company in the world expanding its footprint to the Marcellus. Jesus you are fvcking stupid.

Congrats Professor. We finally found some obscure little factoid about a would be plant out in BFE of which you are so well versed.

Boy is your family ever proud of you.

My family has extensive mineral holdings throughout the Marcellus and Utica. It pays to stay up on the development of infrastructure. Thanks for caring so much.

Y'all can argue all day, as long as none of you want to give Trump the credit.

I thought this was the one WV tried to lure, turns out it is. I REALLY hate these state bidding wars for projects, WV has zero chance to compete with a state like PA or OH, we can only promise the money we have, and they have more. Frankly this shit should be against federal law.

Absolutely it is the one all the states bid on. These are huge infrastructure projects and cost billions of dollars. They will only happen though when a huge multinational like shell wants to do it and has the need to enhance their bottom line. Has nothing to do with trump or obama. As for WV not being able to land this in 2011 and 2012 has solely to do with economics. It’s not a friendly state to do business in and never has been. They have the highest workers comp rates in the nation. You can go to Ohio and get some of the lowest. Nor is the workforce skilled enough to work someplace like this, sw pa has an incredibly skilled work force and very dynamic. There’s a reason why Columbus and Pittsburgh are both still on the amazon hq2 short list.

Blah blah blah.

WV has always been so shitty for business it was once a global leader in several industries. Shit, WV will still let you take the land and kill your workers for a buck. This is the EXACT kind of industry that has it easy in WV.

Listen, in the end a state can only offer so much. How much cash can you put on the table? Larger, richer states have more cash and more wiggle room to tax break, to the point offering infrastructure and services can actually be a net loss vs taxes. That's OK to them, because success breeds success. WV can't afford to lose a fvxking nickle to make a dime.

Some of the dumbest people I have met have been from OH and PA. Some of the smartest have been from WV. It's all relative.

As for HQ2, y'all can have it. You can also have thousands of homeless folks shitting on the sidewalk because rents become too high, and the average worker having to live two hours out of town to afford a house. All for a billion dollars in taxes never collected. Sounds lovely.

Progress Badddd....

Progress Badddd....

It can be, if you cannot afford both the positive and negative consequences of it. Nothing is free. 50k new jobs is awesome, but the city chosen better be ready to provide infrastructure, police and fire, schools, health care, etc. for 200k more people. Or else people will be shitting on the sidewalks.
