According to a current article in the Roanoke, Va Times (www.Roanoke.Com), UNC-Wilmington's first year head coach, Kevin Keatts, has them in the hunt for the Colonial Athletic Association title (currently in a 4 way tie for first), with a current record of 16-11.

Keatts played ball at Ferrum, Va. College, and later coached at MU under Greg White. He had been a head coach at Hargrave Military for about 10 years, according to the Roanoke article, and for the past 3 years was an assistant to Rick Pitino at Louisville.

I didn't realize that Keatts was a MU grad as he apparently finished his degree here although he played ball at Ferrum. Always good to see a Herd alum doing well. By my count, and have no reason to believe this is real accurate, that gives Marshall at least 3 alums currently as D-1 head coaches: Danny D., of course, and former Herd player Brian Fish, who is the head coach at Montana State.

I live in Wilmington and have season tickets, Keatts is in his first year here .Pre-season UNCW was picked to finish ninth out of ten teams, after last night they are in a three way tie for first with one game remaining. The past four or five seasons UNCW has averaged 21 losses, so he hardly inherited a powerhouse. He has recruited easily the best class in CAA and has three quality people sitting out this year, so the future here is bright. Kevin is a terrific coach and a tremendous person, he employs the Pitino pressing style on defense and emphasizes unselfishness on offense.. Of course, the talk here already revolves around how long can UNCW keep him. It surely is nice to see a Herd alum doing well.

If there wasn't the prolonged Lakers fiasco with Mike D, KK would probably be the coach at MU right now. He wasn't willing to wait to see how the lakers thing shook out so he took the offer from UNCW. Good first year for Kevin down there at the beach.
