We can do this! They haven't been setting the world on fire and don't score much. We are a much better "team" now than when we were there in Jan. Need that outside shooting to open up the inside game...

They had their best point total of the season. Definitely a step back tonite. We need to get those defensive rebounds, & have struggled w/it all season. How did UAB lose 8 conference games?

I did not see them take many tough shots, putrid inside defense again led to many layups.

It’s pretty simple. When you play as undisciplined as we did, you’re going to lose. I lost track of how many times we didn’t have a guy within 10 feet of the basket to rebound after UAB put up a shot. Mix that with launching shots as soon as you cross half court and it’s a decent recipe for failure.

Maybe Danny should get a T shirt with the stay puffed marshmallow man on it. We’re that soft.

While this has really not been the case for the duration of the year... this was a step back for a defense that has been pretty darn good. 6 days off to get back up to par.

That was the worst defensive performance of the year. They got in the lane and scored at will. I think they only made a handful of jumpers in the first half.

I agree . Our defense was awful. Guards did a terrible job stopping penetration and our bigs can't rebound. I love Kinsey but he takes some of the worst shots I have ever seen. It is almost like Dantoni is afraid to say something to him because he is afraid he will transfer. The kid needs discipline!!

EXTREMELY disappointing!!!!

I commented at halftime to my son-in-law...I fear MU will come out FLAT & SOFT in the second half. I SHOULD HEAD TO VEGAS.

UAB make some circus shots from about 5-6 feet that tumbled in....The HERD missed put backs! When Dan´s guys got down by double digits (around 12 pts)....I think Marshall missed 7 consecutive FREE THROWS!

Itś a damn uncontested foul shot...guys!

I was thinking about heading to Frisco since a tournament package ticket is only $125, however, I believe MU will be two in & done. THEY CAN NOT WIN ON THE ROAD! No reason to believe they will turn some magic on in Texas and win 4-straight!

UAB is at best an average basketball team and they would have a losing record in every dang Conference in America!

I have been harsh on Bennett----I tip my hat to him for last nights good play! Andrew Taylor continues to regress and plays like he is always in fear of being jerked to the bench. We were led to believe when he became eligible---the guys would be set for a Title run! NOT the Case!

Mikel deserves more minutes....you do not take a ¨streak shooter" out of the game when he gets his stroke going! He played scrappy defense too,

I´m as disappointed as I was with our football team! Guess I will cheer for UNC---Concord [Charlotte]. As least they play with passion!

I agree on Kinsey-
---disappointed in his overall play after the summer he had! Too many of Dan´s guys fire up wings & prayer shots---hoping they will fall in! I wonder what is said when the team watches film from another loss they peed away!

There is not one player I would grade above a ¨C¨ for this season!

It is common knowledge [art of shooting] and for damn sure Dan did not shoot the ball like his guys are heaving today----he had great form and a pure jump shot!

I support thatś the issue with this team---GREEN light---¨ïf I miss 6 or 8 attempts in a row....no problem---I will eventually hit a couple of circus shots!¨

This team is no longer freshman & sophomores----hell, every team in America has youth dotting their rosters! It is time to EARN that free scholarship-----or be like Coach Huggins===CLEAN HOUSE!

All I can say is wow.

And that the five stages of grief are denial (where a lot of you were stuck for most of the year), anger (often misdirected in this case), bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Welcome to stage 5.

Never! Go Herd!! Sam - one can be critical w/o abandoning the ship. So, the 1st mate might question the Captain’s inability to execute that turn to port, but when the Cap sinks the enemy ship, it’s 3 hip hip hoorays!! ....for the Captain.

First bad game since at UTSA, which was really just one atrocious half.

I’ll take 4 good games per dud. They’re certainly not having those bad games as often.

As I have said before, I’m fascinated by the complete lack of carryover game to game for this team. Good, bad, indifferent, they tend not to trend in any particular direction more than a single game at a time.

So we will see what happens Wednesday!

So Sam:
At the risk of causing a disturbance in the space-time continuum, let’s flip those 5 stages onto your belief in Doc & the football program: Will you admit to having reached acceptance that there is no hope of redemption, that it (football) is a dumpster fire & that Marshall deserves better than what is happening on the gridiron??? Your answer might help you understand why I will never give up on DD as long as he coaches our Herd....

Hold on guys. We have not heard from the great defenders of the Herd can do no wrong - meister, Stowers, and Perkins.

Feel free to find a quote of me defending what Dan has done in recent months.

I like Dan personally, but I think he opens his mouth entirely too much (especially on internal issues).

I expected a poor season (again check my quotes) therefore none of this is surprising. Honestly, we’ve played better than I expected us to albeit still bad.

IMO, Dan needs to really consider washing his hands of a few kids and going out and trying to locate at least one true shooter.

Beyond any of that, you weren’t even aware that we had already secured our spot in the CUSA tourney. Big fan of basketball are ya? I can tell.

New NET rankings. 179th. Of 353, meaning almost perfectly mediocre. 7th of the 14 in CUSA, perfectly mediocre. And our league’s leader has a NET higher than 14 other leagues, lower than 17. You could say that is second worst among the mid-majors, or you could say it is almost perfectly mediocre.

A mediocre team in a mediocre conference. And you will “never” give up on that.

In other words, you accept mediocrity.

And somehow you bring our successful football program into this. Far above mediocre. Over-achieving.

….and not surprisingly, you ignored the question. Too painful to discuss?

What question?

You, like all football anhedonians, start with a false premise. In fact, in the real world, MU football is a very successful program and something to be proud of. Since you cannot accept that, you question is silly.

Sam, you are SO funny!!!!
1st sentence: What question?
Last statement: you(r) question is silly...……..

;)

Well for once Coach Stowers you make some sense. Regarding my not being aware that we had “secured” a spot in the CUSA tourney my question in that thread was how will this stupid pod play affect the chance of us going as we are currently 1-1 in our pod with 2 games to go. We lose those 2 Coach Stowers then what?

Your definition of "very successful" being?

Very successful.

Winning. Going to bowl games. Being among the 130-or so I-A programs despite our size and limitations. Playing schools no one would have dared dream of just a generation ago.

Marshall football. Very successful.

Winning - so has MU basketball 3 years running (maybe 4, something the football program cannot claim!!)

Going to Bowl games - NCAA tourney, a more prestigious achievement (relative to internal Marshall accomplishments) than any of MU's Bowl games have been since Doc took over.

Being among the Top 130.....really? Like Akron, Kent & Buffalo? Wake me up when you have something...…..

Playing schools no one would have dreamed of just a generation ago.... Your bullet point would've been SO much more compelling had you typed "Winning" rather than "Playing"....Wofford played Clemson last year. I am sure that, 20 years from now, their salty old Terrier alums will gather 'round the keg before a game and revel in their memory of that 56-7 (or so) beatdown, 'cuz Jimmy Bob "Lightning" Leftwich beat the Tide's 5th string linebacker into the end zone with .34 ticks left on the clock...…We used to win a few of those, but not any since Doc took the helm.

Marshall football. Very mediocre.

That means there are 60 or so very successful programs every year.

Winning - so has MU basketball 3 years running...maybe 4...

Accepting mediocrity. 15-15 or so is OK. You don’t demand better. In a cupcake conference where only 4-6 teams actually even try.

I get that you are a football anhedonian. NOTHING that happens in football will ever suit you, but please, you make yourself look small. MU, ONCE, from fourth place, had a lucky run and went to the tournament, ONCE. No one outside Huntington or Wichita remembers. And so have literally over 100 other programs in the last 4 years. Programs I guarantee that you could not tell me the location, state, colors, control, or mascot of without googling. Going to the NCAAs should be EXPECTED every recruiting generation.

Like Akron, Kent & Buffalo? Wake me up when you have something...…..

You mean the schools we were dominating when we dominated the lowly MAC? Those schools? From the supposed heyday?

But, yes, for MU, one of the smallest and poorest funded programs in I-A, just being I-A is amazing. No one would have ever dreamed of it just a few years ago. A testimony to our fan base.

Clemson is the Tigers, Alabama is the Tide, but anyway, being the once a year I-AA victim is one thing. MU did that back in the I-AA era.

MU is playing major programs at the HIGHEST LEVEL, straight up. Not for cash. STRAIGHT UP. Over achieving. Awesome.

That means there are 60 or so very successful programs every year.

Now you are starting to understand.

The only thing I understand and know is a 6-6 bowl team is not a very successful team. That's mediocre at best.
