Myrtle Beach Bowl is a thing beginning in 2020

Obviously Myrtle Beach is southern West Virginia's favorite vacation destination, and fast becoming a low-tax retiree destination as well with 1000s of ex- West Virginians living there. Although December is its slow season (average high is 58, low is 37), leaving it mostly to the golfers and the year rounders.

This bowl would WANT us. More than any other CUSA team. We easily put 4000 in there.

The only issue is that butt ugly teal (yes, teal) astroturf.

Now the football anhedonia sufferers can turn this into another "I want to play in the Sugar Bowl" anti-Marshall thread. Enjoy.

My mistake before. Great bowl location for MU.

Tuesday afternoon, the MAC and Conference USA announced the creation of the Myrtle Beach Bowl, which will first be played following the 2020 regular season. The postseason game will be owned and operated by ESPN and will be played at 21,000-seat Brooks Stadium, home of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

There will be three conference tie-ins to the bowl game: the two already mentioned as well as the Sun Belt. Each league will play in the Myrtle Beach Bowl four times over the six years of the current contract.

Ok Chris. Sorry , I was told it was MAC and SUN BELT. I like it. Marshall will fill the stadium with all the West Virginia folks in that area.

I agree that this bowl will want Marshall and I'm sure the athletic department will agree to bring the team to Myrtle Beach. I'm sure Marshall can sell plenty of tickets for this game and depending on the opponent, the other side may bring a decent amount of fans too.

As Rhino mentioned, hopefully this will end the Bahamas Bowl.

I've always found MB to be overrated and depending on the bowl game opponent, it may be hard to justify the trip. I'm sure I'm in the minority with that feeling and IF we go to that bowl, the fan support will be good.

I’m sure we will be in this inaugural bowl, which means we didn’t win a conference championship..............

Would you really want to take on a CUSA team in a Bowl year after year? Not like we don't see enough of them during the regular season. Only 1 or 2 SB teams might be a fun matchup. I doubt, that 4k fans would be at any bowl, unless it's in Huntington.

Why did a mod delete my post yesterday? I simple was inquiring, about the lack of students I say on ESPN+ at the BB game. Seemed like there was everyone except students.

I agree. I have never been there but I'm sure the weather the week before Christmas is MUCH colder than June. Still no weather match for Florida or Nassau for that matter.

It's also a drive-able location. Unfortunately Myrtle Beach has turned into a dump. But then again so has Ocean City, parts of Hilton Head and any other over visited location.

The worst part of HHI is ten times better than the best of MB. MB is having some major crime and drug issues. No thanks.

That's probably true. It just sucks that all of those places have become miserable tourist bottlenecks. But again at least the bowl is close enough to get to by car.

I go to Myrtle Beach a couple times a year to see my aunt and uncle who retired there... I like MB infinitely better in the off season, which is of course when this bowl will be.

In the summer MB is a tourist trap nightmare along the main strip and the beach is crowded (and pretty crappy when compared to other NC/SC beaches in terms of aesthetics). If you don't stay on a golf course, the prices are high because the demand is outrageous. Also, because its tourist season the crime rate booms.

In the winter/early spring there is way less traffic, hotels are cheaper, you can play any golf course around without being behind a stream of 4-somes of elderly duffers that take 5 hours. You can't go in the water, but you can walk on the beach without a bunch of drunk idiots and children running around. You can also get into restaurants and bars without having to wait. The key is getting decent weather, but theres no way to plan for that.

Myrtle Beach from April-October = Sucks
Myrtle Beach from November-March = Enjoyable

Me neither, but the average temp in Dec. is 40-60o. Not too warm in my opinion.

I went to MB during the 2008 Marshall Baseball season to watch a tournament. The day that Marshall played a doubleheader that weekend, the second game was played in the evening. I believe this was the 3rd weekend of February and the night time temperature got down to around 45. That wouldn't have been so bad if the wind off the ocean wasn't a constant 15 to 20 mph the entire game. It was the coldest baseball game I've attended.

Since this game will be played at Coastal Carolina, which is around 10 miles inland from MB, perhaps any wind during this bowl game will be minimized.

CCU is located in Conway off 501, and it's right across from Myrtle Beach National Golf Club, so 10 miles inland is about right.

Good grief. This bowl location is infinitely better than Detroit. Happy to have a football game to watch and possibly attend during bowl season. Makes the holidays that much brighter. But I guess I'm not a glass half-empty kind of guy . . . .

I agree Myrtle Beach is fine to host a bowl game. It's not like you're going to be taking the kids to the Pavilion to ride the rides, or swimming in the ocean in December. I went to the Orange Bowl back in the the early 80's, when it was played in the old Orange Bowl stadium... hell you needed a police escort to get out of that place.

Hey, I enjoyed trips to the Motor City Bowl to watch the Herd play in games at the Silver Dome. Then, again, the Dome was in a suburb, Pontiac, I believe, and NOT in Detroit!! :)

Don't stay in Myrtle Beach folks. Go to Surside, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach, Pawleys Island, North Myrtle Beach, Cherry Grove.

Good Lord, the southern strand area Surfside, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield, and Pawleys are awesome. Don't go stay in downtown myrtle area and you will be fine and have a good trip.

Go north or go south in the area and it is a great place.
