I seriously doubt we even get close to a sell out for this game. Regardless of weather. We are like 8 days away and tickets sold hasn't even topped 25k. I don't think there is any way we sell 15k by next Saturday. The UL game had a lot of energy because it was nice weather, top 5 team, Heisman candidate. We were well above 25 k at this point for that game and the Purdue game it I recall. Baffles me why our fans don't buy tickets to game like this or wait until the last minute.

I think we get more than 30k but what the deal? Purdue game sold out and UL sold out understandably. We will have not had a game in 2 weeks and we are 2-0. What gives? I can never understand MU fans. I think if WVU didn't have a home game that would help us some because we might get some of those fans that like both.

Let's hope weather changes or we might not get above 25k. As of right now it shows highs in the 60s for day and 50s for game with rain. Can we catch a damn break with this rain??

What are the chances NC State can't even make it here next weekend?

I would say the weather forecast is going to change about 3-4 times before we get to Saturday. I don't know if weather patterns are harder to predict now or what, but it doesn't seem like anyone is able to accurately predict more than 1-2 days at a time nowadays.

Is it still one of those deals where you have to buy tickets for 4 games just to get the one ticket? That turned me off from buying them thru Marshall in the past. I live out of state and it's just not feasible. Started using other vendors to get a single ticket when that happened.

You never had to buy 4 tickets by game time rolled around. They simply encouraged mini packages. You don't have to do that now. Go to Herdzone.com and buy the ticket and print it at home or call 1-800-THE-HERD

I think we will have a sell out or close to it, like the Kansas State game.

I think there are a few things going on with Marshall that is having an effect on attendance.

Number 1 is live attendance is down everywhere. Other than your Ohio States, Alabama type programs I see a lot of empty seats even at P5 games.

Number 2 all of the years of MU being in small bad conferences have caught up to us. The MAC and this version of CUSA have been for the most part terrible. We play the majority of our games against teams nobody has heard of. We have a few good teams and the rest are directional schools that are awful. I know there is nothing we can do about this but the luster of playing the majority of our games against the bottom 100 of college football is taking its toll and we have been doing it since 1997.

Number 3 Local competition. Ohio State is 2 1/2 hours away and they play a Big 10 schedule, UK is 90 minutes away and they play an SEC schedule. Last but not least our fellow DI program in WV plays in the Big 12, and has had a pretty sustained pattern of being a known brand since the 90s. These schools play Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan type teams almost every week while we play Old Dominion or Florida international. It’s a recipe for dwindling attendance.

Lastly we haven’t cultivated a big enough new fan base to replace all of our older fans that we have lost through death or illness. When the stadium first opened my family had 12 season tickets in section 109, and every week all 12 were filled by various members of my family. Plus my mom, dad, uncle and aunt and a couple of cousins would go to at least 2 away games per year. Now through death and illness and family like me moving away, I live in Boston there are only 4 of them who attend regularly and they don’t go to any away games.

I’m not worried about NC State we will have a big crowd for them but honestly especially if the weather isn’t good you aren’t going to have to worry about having more than 20K at the Joan. I don’t know what the answer is to fix it other than to say it may be the way it will be from now on.

Post of the year. This is on MU for riding the backs of the BG and donors and not giving a flip about the other 100K in the immediate Huntington area.
It’s a business, you compete for customers and their time/money.
Sadly, those at MU don’t get that.

Outside of the same 20k die hard fans we have had the past two decades the rest of our fan base is worthless. I said it. I agreed with Hamrick 100% when he said it a few years back (in a roundabout way) and I still agree with him. Since I feel cheated by the SC game (even though they probably made the right call) I plan to drive up from SC with my daughter and actually use my two season tickets one time this year. If you are a true fan there is absolutely no reason why you can't make a small BG gift or buy a season ticket even if you have to give it away. Step up Herd Nation!

caliherd what really hurt attendance (and don’t let them kid you) was MHs stadium reseating that was totally unnecessary when we only sell out - or come close, is when we have a “big” name or conference rival and then weather/television comes into play. JMO

Perhaps you should ask your fellow Duke fans that question. They only had 26,000 fans for their season opener against Army.

A 2-0 Duke team hosting Army doesn’t cause near the excitement as a 2-0 Marshall team hosting NC State......or it shouldn’t anyways.

I said "season opener." That refers to the first game of the season, so Duke couldn't have been 2-0. Duke, an ACC team, having gone to bowls in 5 of the last 6 years and facing an FBS in a season opener should draw far more than 26,000.

I misread your post, but I tend to agree.

Wife and I were at the game. It was a nice crowd for a holiday weekend. Tailgating among the fragrant pines is always a treat.

Big opportunity missed today at Chilifest. All the tents and booths I saw and not one Herd athletics tent to promote and sell tickets for NC State. Not one unless I missed it. Great opportunity to promote this game and I guarantee a lot of people would have gone ahead and bought their ticket. These are simple but effective ways to sell tickets to games. Make it seem like a big deal, which it is. Go to the fan. Don't wait for them to come to you. Promote the shit out of it. Small price to pay to have a tent set up to sell tickets to that game and others.

They can’t do that, then they couldn’t tweet shit about the fans not buying tix.

I’m pretty sure Marshall is damned if they do and damned if they don’t in the minds of some of our fans.

I remember a fan going ballistic over a practice being cancelled because the staff wanted to go to a funeral.

I don’t think it’s that Random. It’s just they can do things that are low cost or no cost to enhance their presence and hopefully sell some tix.

Yeah, it may require someone to work a Saturday event but hell we’ve all worked odd hours at some point in time. We just aren’t very proactive as a school, never have been.

People in general, and this includes Herd fans, are more fair weather than ever before. And I mean that literally, because you can be assured the game isnt going to sell out early people wait until Friday to decide whether or not they want to go.

If its rainy or cold, fans are more likely to stay home and watch it on their 60 inch flat screen.

The days of getting excited to take your kids to the game come hell or high water are over. Its easier, cheaper and more comfortable to watch it on TV if its not 72 degrees and mostly sunny.

I don't know about "far more" Y.A.G. I was at a Duke game years ago and Wade Stadium only held 30,000. Unless it has
been expanded it holds less than the Joan.

WWS was expanded last season. It’s a shade over 40k now I believe.

I don’t want to be a negative person, but did anybody watch the EKU game? That was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

I like Doc, but we’re competing for entertainment dollars here. How many times did Doc say, “recruits buy with their eyes” when we were building the IPF? Well, fans do too. And when you put a sloppy & boring product on the field, it’s hard to sell that shit to casual fans.

Duke has wrapped up a 3 year redo of Wallace Wade and the new official capacity is 40,004.
It is, in my opinion, the only stadium I’ve seen in person that looks exactly as the architects envisioned. It is absolutely beautiful.
WW capacity before was 33k except games that temporary seats were installed. Such as the Rose Bowl, Alabama, etc.

because Marshall football since the early 2000s has had 1 or 2 exceptionally good years. Some bad ones and a bunch of mediocre seasons. And, oh the program is about as exciting as watching grass grow. That's why. We lost the fans for their time and money.

That's where you're wrong, Random. A single promotional tent at Chilifest was surely the key to a NC State sellout.

The AD strikes out again.
