From the president’s office. Let’s hope this doesn’t carry over into football!

    • We will be testing all unvaccinated individuals—employees and students—throughout the semester. Our goal is to test every unvaccinated person once a week, as feasible. Vaccinated students and employees are exempt from testing requirements unless requested as part of contact tracing protocols.

  • All students must sign anagreement to comply with public health expectations and all policies and guidelines.

  • Protocols are in place for case management, quarantine/self-isolation and contact tracing of all cases at the university. If you are exposed, you will not required to quarantine if you have been fully vaccinated against the disease and show no symptoms.

  • Cleaning and disinfection of facilities is done in accordance with protocols recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, using Environmental Protection Agency-approved products effective against the COVID-19 virus.

  • University-sponsored travel (domestic and international) continues to be restricted for both students and employees. All international travel must be registered in advance using the online International Travel Registration Form.

More information about fall 2021 protocols will be available on the university’s coronavirus website in the coming days.”

Am I missing something? I don't see mask mentioned at all except in the subject of the thread.

Sorry. Here is the rest.
“Due to the increasing prevalence of cases of COVID-19, including the Delta variant, in our region, Marshall University is revising its masking guidelines.

Beginning this Wednesday, Aug. 11, masks are required for everyone in all indoor spaces on university property, regardless of vaccination status.
Instructors can choose to teach either while wearing a mask/face shield or while standing behind the plexiglass barrier in the classroom.

Masks are not required in private residence hall rooms or personal office space.”

Boy that's tall order. How many thousands of people are on and off that campus on a daily basis. Are they going to have a line down 3rd Ave?

I'm hearing pf the possibility that the crowds at the Joan and the Cam MAY have to be reduced again like last year.

Truth is this: There is no easy solution. You might think there is, but there is not.
Just how difficult do you see getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, and practicing social distancing?? Even young kids can manage to easily clear those epic hurdles.

You think that is going to fix it? Get real. Yehh follow the science and data. Well, the data and science does not say mask a 4 year old. The evidence is just not there.

I am going to live my life. I am not going to bow to some Liberal Gestapo.

Go get a vaccine. But, I am not going to buy into some of this other stuff.

I am one who is still very confused about mask use. I was always taught, and many physicians have confirmed, that virus particles are so small that masks do not work. So why use them? Pretty much like making a bucket out of screen wire.
The same thing with the foot square plexiglass shields hanging from chains in many stores. Do they believe a virus is incapable of moving up or down, left or right, and going around corners?
I just stay isolated as much as possible because I am convinced there is no such thing as a medical “expert” to give me reliable information.

If we’re going after ineffective government mandates can we lump airport security in there too so I can stop having to take my shoes off and repack my bag every time?

The idea is that, even though the virus particles are small, the air you’re breathing out isn’t going out near as far and some of the virus is getting stuck in spite of its size.
Which, for an air-tight fitted mask is true.
For a cloth mask all you’re really doing is shooting the air up through the nose part that isn’t really fitted to your face, which isn’t really providing much protection from anything.

Yep, I guess it would be the same logic as asking people in high crime areas to hang a tin cookie sheet around their necks. It won’t stop a bullet and you are still likely to die, but it might slow the bullet down a little bit.

A sip of water is not much, but it's better than no water.

Would you want that tin cookie sheet in front of your face if someone was shooting at you with a shotgun loaded with bird shot?

Dumb Analogies for $500, Alex

A lot of things will provide varying levels of protection from a lot of things. The question is what is worth doing?

I’ve seen the dumb phrase that we need to do “everything we can” to stop the spread, and they never actually mean militarized lockdowns and the full shutdown of all non-critical services. Because that would be “everything.” Or maybe turn the nuclear arsenal on hot spots?

So the trade-off between effectiveness and downsides has to be considered.

Oh, there are some people that would do that I have no doubt. Some of them are in power as well.
