Blind loyalty ruins programs. Imagine if Marshall continued to sell 30,000 tickets/game, continued to increase donations, etc. during these garbage years. It would have very little incentive for anyone to do better. It would reinforce the belief around Shewey that Marshall fans will accept mediocrity, and that will be the goal for the entire department.
People like you who constantly make excuses for subpar performances cause far more destruction to the program than people who pull their money and let their voice be heard.
I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m saying there are some on here that don’t EVER buy season tickets. They don’t EVER donate money. They don’t EVER attend Big Green functions, etc.....And yet they’re the ones with the biggest issues.

I highly doubt the "ones with the biggest issues" are the ones who don't do what you claimed. There are plenty of people who have done those things and pulled their money due to what's going on in the Shewey.

Someone should take the time to calculate "adjusted recruiting class rankings" for CUSA. Go out three years and see who is still on the rosters and see how they stack up. I know we lose a fair amount from each class and have a lot of our higher ranked players fall by the wayside, but don't know the level everyone else in the conference has in this area.
It's just hard to understand how Marshall can have the top, or at least top 3, class every year and not win at least a divisional title. It has to be one of three things or some combination of them:
1. Recruit rankings are meaningless and services like Rivals are therefore worthless.
2. We do lose a disproportionate number of players.
3. Our coaching staff sucks.

Seems to me the biggest thing that would come out of this is the visual on the # of "chances" Doc takes each year with recruiting. For every Yulee (assuming he gets back fully healthy) you have 5 duds. The initial counter math also must be a mess given how many guys sign but never show up or do but end up gone within 1 year.

I like victories and not losses to programs like Charlotte. If that makes me a “fair weather” fan I’d say I’m in the majority here. I like trophies and playing meaningful games late into the season, I like having heisman finalists, #1 draft picks and watching an exciting style of football. So basically everything we aren’t now
And, right there, you show your problem. You don’t respect our conference. Marshall is “supposed” to win because it is “supposed” to. Childish delusional fandom, turned inward and rotten. Yes, MU is in a conference with UNCC, and is likely to be for decades to come. If that is not for you, if you cannot respect our conference mates, then move on.
Further, the “golden era” you pine for, represent the eras when MU truly should have looked down on the conferences it was in. In the early 90s MU was a de facto I-A team playing in I-AA. We really were supposed to win. Then it was a fast Southern team playing in the lowly MAC, home of the future phys-ed teachers of Ohio vs. the future phys-ed teachers of Michigan. Slow, white, fat, mid-western football. Oh, and we had Randy Moss (see below).
Today, of course, we have found a conference where all members are together in a desire to play G5 football. Built for football. All trying to achieve the same thing. No reason to look down on any program. Yes, we play UNCC. Great.
Yep. You are only with the team when it wins, and actually only if it wins versus the “right” teams. Not UNCC or ODU. We are “supposed” to beat them. Fair weather.
Do I really have to repeat the 6000 events, all of which had to happen just so, for Randy Moss to end up here? Randy Moss IS THE BEST PLAYER EVER AT MARSHALL. He will ALWAYS be. Because he was a true “five star”. He was elite. He was an SEC/ACC level athlete, playing in I-AA and then the lowly MAC. The chances of someone like him, ever, being here again are as close to zero as you can have.
As to CP and BL, I will give you that. But CP was Donnan’s, not BP, and we got him because his parents were alumni and better programs overlooked him because they looked down on his HS’s level of play. BL was also overlooked for similar reasons, big programs disrespect DC public schools, because the rich prep schools recruit away most of the good players.
Those people are long retired (although BL will be an NFL head coach within 5 years). That era, which you mis-remember to a great degree, is long past. Today, MU is playing a good brand of football against teams that deserve our respect.

Cheap victories over marginal out-matched teams is what we're getting now. We seldom get victories over teams with winning records.
This conference sucks, there’s enough proof of that I should t have to spell it out to you,
Four wins over teams with a winning record isn't "seldom." Last season, we beat FAU, they went on to win a bowl game and finished 11-3. We beat La Tech who went on to beat Miami in a bowl game and finished 10-3. We beat WKU, they went on to win a bowl game and finished 9-4. We beat Ohio, they went on to win a bowl game and finished 7-6.
Even in the "Glory years" there was only ever one win over a team that finished ranked in the final poll. Kansas St finished #13 in the coaches poll and #14 in the writer's poll for the 2003 season.
You are wrong, but it does not really matter. You are convinced of it, and thus NOTHING that is going to happen in MU football, no matter who is coach, AD, or QB, is going to matter to you.
You need to find something else, and move on.
I don’t know, being ranked last or next to last as a league by every analyst or publication seems like pretty compelling evidence.
