I never got the impression that the Penava was overly focusing on the NBA ,but had his eye on Europe from the beginning
For the life of me I can't understand how that is a better option than playing for the Herd one more season. Stay and be coached by a former NBA assistant coach and add muscle or go sit out a year. Wish him well but he is headed to Europe. In talking with his mom this morning his plans remain the same as they have been since he opted out. To stay in Santa Barbara this year, workout with a trainer to gain strength. He had great feedback from a few NBA teams.
He is mulling over the chance to play with one of 2 NBA teams this summer in the NBA Summer League
He knows that he must get stronger to get more serious looks for the 2019-20 NBA season
I agree, I don't understand this decision based on the thought process above. This makes zero sense because the kid is now paying for a place to live, eat, workout, and Im sure there is a cost for a trainer. Is it loyalty or just not being smart. Get your degree finished, add weight, and work under a former NBA coach at Marshall for a year. Shaking my head!!!I hope he has success. That said, makes me appreciate Elmore staying all the more. Loyalty runs both ways.

that helps someAccording to some - he does have his degree. But still wonder about the decision. Oh well. We have some new horses. Hopefully they will step up.
Apples and oranges. White side was drafted penava wasn’t and really didn’t have chance to beHassan Whiteside was so dumb too coming out...![]()

His mother agrees with your assessment. His family couldn't be happier. They love the time he spent here and will forever be indebted but they all felt this was the best decision for their son. It was a must for them that Ajdin got a degree and he will have it. The mom is a doctor and sister is in dental school.Very small chance he is paying for these items. His agent will cover all of those costs as an up-front "business" expense that will be recouped once he signs his first contract. His agent and firm are big time players in both the NBA and Europe. He will end up fine in the end. Some kids are just ready to "be pros" and this looks like it for Peneva.
Really? I'm sure it has happened now and then, but, in any sport, you leave college, and you market yourself, in the case of basketball, to the NBA and then down the chain of the G-league, China, the Euroleague, the three lesser European feeder leagues, and wherever else, and either you go do that, or you get on with your life.
I would be interested in the names of, say, 10 players in the last 10 years who followed a path of quitting school, then working out on his own and then played serious professional ball in a later year. Doubt it.
Not sure it was a poor choice but Odd to say the leastLots of young people make poor decisions based on poor advice. For that matter many older adults do as well. I wish Ajdin Peneva all the best as he moves forward.
I understand, I hope he makes its but consider he played very little as a freshman, started as Soph and it ok and then had one great season. One more good year could not have hurt.AllEers6 I was referring to previous posts in the thread questioning his decision. I agree with your observation that it was “odd” to do this considering where he may have been in next years draft had he stayed.
Per his mother is was all about building up his body. Going to class and traveling with a college team wouldn't allow him to concentrate on nutrition and build his body as much as living and working in a training facility.I understand, I hope he makes its but consider he played very little as a freshman, started as Soph and it ok and then had one great season. That’s a load of bullshit because college athletes do it every year.Per his mother is was all about building up his body. Going to class and traveling with a college team wouldn't allow him to concentrate on nutrition and build his body as much as living and working in a training facility.
She's the doctor, not me. All I know is he gained less than 25 pounds in 3 years in Huntington. That’s a load of bullshit because college athletes do it every year.
That’s fine it was a family decision but to say he couldn’t get bigger focus on nutrition etc doesn’t make sense when other athletes all over the country can do itShe's the doctor, not me. All I know is he gained less than 25 pounds in 3 years in Huntington.
Regardless what we think, he and his parents felt that it was the best option. It was clear that he HAD to get a degree first and he will by summers end.
I just don't think he worked on that stuff to be honest. You give him a summer with Coach Day and he probably would put on about 30 lbs overall and about 20 lbs of muscle. I'm not sure which S&C coaches are in charge of the BB team but they need to focus more on overall strength and bulking up everyone but Bennett. I know D'Antoni works them hard, which makes it difficult to keep their weight up, but it could be done with the right S&C plan. I believe this aspect is something that is lacking in the BB program. She's the doctor, not me. All I know is he gained less than 25 pounds in 3 years in Huntington.

.......I am guessing: (I know Yags ..... not the previous poster’s ? !!!)Which does make since as, per comment above, Penava DOES have a MU degree. Thus, one more year at MU would require that he also be a student in the academic since. I assume that means graduate work, in addition to any strength and conditioning, and or weight gaining activities he may be pursuing.
Does anyone know: will the NCAA permit a student athlete who has an undergraduate degree and who has remaining eligibility, play the same sport while working on a SECOND bachelor's degree? Or does the student athlete, say Ajdin Penava, for instance, have to enrolled in Graduate course work in order to participate in the sport in which he still has eligibility???

He will have his degree completed this summer so does that mean he is in Huntington any way lefting and eating?Which does make since as, per comment above, Penava DOES have a MU degree.
