Seriously because evidently this is must be too complex for me to understand.

How did we go from one of the top offenses in the country from 2012 to 2014 and breaking team records and some FBS records to this?

What changed?

2012-2014 vs 2015-2019

I don't understand how we have fallen so far.

I mean this year's team make Snyder's teams look prolific.

Doc has had 10 teams now. The only three that had an above average to great offense all had Cato at QB. We never have had a great game plan for offense, we were just lucky enough to find a QB that was too small for most schools that wanted to play with his buddy who was also too small for most schools and they both turned out to be really good.

Total Offense Rank by year

2010 - 103
2011 - 102
2012 - 6
2013 - 12
2014 - 2
2015 - 64
2016 - 114
2017 - 92
2018 - 72
2019 - 82

So we have been in the bottom half of FBS every year except Cato's soph thru senior seasons. So the average of the other 7 seasons is 90.

If you absorbed my last post, I'm going to blow your mind now. We all agree that watching Snyder's offense was horrible. Here is the total offense ranks for his 5 teams

2005 - 89th
2006 - 49
2007 - 44
2008 - 86
2009 - 81

5 year average - 69.8

As I mentioned, Doc's non Cato average was 90. If you put the Cato years back in

Doc's 10 year average - 64.9

Now, when you figure in that Snyder played much tougher schedules, it can easily be shown that Snyder actually had a better offense over his tenure than Doc even when Doc had the most prolific QB in Marshall history as a full season starter for 3 years.

The last 15 years of Marshall offense ranked best to worst

2014 Doc
2012 Doc
2013 Doc
2007 Snyder
2006 Snyder
2015 Doc
2018 Doc
2009 Snyder
2008 Snyder
2005 Snyder
2017 Doc
2011 Doc
2010 Doc
2016 Doc

Without the Cato anomaly, Snyder would have 5 of the 7 top seasons while playing tougher competition.

Goodness man that is sobering.

The receiver rotation is a head scratcher and what college football program runs a 3 TE set as a spread offense and puts a 6-3 250 lb TE that runs a 5.0 40 at the X

A team that doesn't have enough WRs to take the field. Do yourself a favor and go look at the WRs on the roster. Take out Obi and Henry and it's horrible.

Willie Johnson rJR
Artie Henry SR (Out for season)
Obi Obialo SR (possibly out for season)
Talik Keaton FR
Tavin Richardson rSR (UK Transfer)
Corey Gammage rFR
Stone Scarcelle rSO (walk-on)
Amir Richardson FR (redshirting)
Simino Walden rJR
Caleb McMillian rFR (still hasn't played)
Joe Fields rSR (I believe is a walk-on)
Ethan Hahn FR (walk-on)
Broc Thompson FR

Lack of skilled and talented players. Just not as good as the Herald dispatch says they are.

an argument could be made that Snyder was a better coach. He had less talent and much tougher competition. Doc is awful. He caught lightning in a bottle with Cato, Shuler and Johnson and had Heater as a defensive coordinator. Outside of that he had done very little.

But, but, but - Snyder failed completely!! So, what does that make Doc?
....and while I’m at it - how did anyone not see this coming? Were we really going to put with w/ Doc’s shenanigans for another 10 seasons? Time for a leadership change at the top.

My 5 year old understood it best when I put it like this...

He’s made more plays than anyone in the passing game recently. I understand what you’re saying but he’s been a steady contributor.

I get that - he’s made more plays - but this offense is a gimmick offense no strategy - from the crazy 3 Te sets , X playing wildcat, double reverse jet sweeps, fake xtra points, I could go on

Make no mistake. Bill was a problem and needed to go, but, to your point, that certainly didn't fix all our problems.
