Prayers Up For Damar Hamlin

Looked like a possible commotio cordis event. Hamlin got hit directly in the chest. In a commotio cordis event that contact happens in a specific interval in the heart beat cycle and causes cardiac arrest. It’s more common in younger boys and more common in projectile sports like lacrosse and baseball.
Luckily survival rates have increased to about 60% with rapid intervention like aed use and cpr

What do you make of the fact that he's apparently not breathing on his own?

This report says his vitals are back to normal.

Update on Damar: His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. They are currently running tests. We will provide updates as we have them.

The hit didn't look that severe. Looked like a normal play you see all the time. Have heard of it baseball ut very rare..also baseball is more direct hit and no pads. He also appeared to stand back up after the contact. They are saying he had cardiac arrest on the field.

Agree with above @herdfan429 . Possibly Commotio Cordis. However, it is a diagnosis of exclusion, so you have to rule out other stuff as well...but that is what my money is on. Just a freak occurrence. In the US happens with baseball or hockey and in other parts of the world soccer/"football."

I'm very far from an expert on this. I suspect the big question will be if any brain activity is present or what type of damage was done.

The hit doesn’t have to be severe just at the right instant during the heart beat cycle. Standing u is also very common with commotio cordis. Usually they take a step or two/stand and then collapse.

Oh I didn’t disagree with having to exclude other things. Just saying that it’s presented as almost textbook commotio

The teams and the union told Roger to continue to get fvcked. Good.

NFL today tried damage control, said they had to implement their emergency plan so everyone was safe leaving the stadium. Um no, we all heard it announced the game would continue in five minutes. We all saw Diggs trying to get his teammates focused for that. Gaslighting SOBs.

The one out the NFL could have is if the 5 minutes thing came from a “just following the rules” ref and not the head office.

That would make the head office derelict in their duty to not leave something this massive up to a ref, but that’s a better look than Goodell making the call.

I’m willing to bet that the 5 minutes not necessarily a policy but standard practice for an extended break that is usually followed after an injury

Let’s see, a rare (12x/year) event that typically happens to under-20s with a pre-existing heart condition, typically induced by a baseball strike to an unprotected chest.

Or a routine tackle by a 24 year old elite athlete wearing shoulder pads with chest protection who likely was forced by the NFL to get an experimental injection that has caused millions of cardiac events since being deployed.

It’s strange how fast the messaging on commotio cordis came out.

When you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras.

I think it actually is policy for an extended stoppage of play (lights going out, etc.)

Agree with rox. That hit was not that direct nor severe. Looke like a high tackle to me and the guy had shouler pads on which cover the chest. Wasn't like he took a hot grounder with a small ball directly on the heart that was unprotected. The force would be spreadout from the pads of the runner and the tackler.

So far we have had coaches drop. Players drop. Young athletes drop. Runners drop who compete at high levels. I have heard of it in the military, guys who work out ever day or damn near it.

Modern shoulder pads, I am assuming NFL wears top of the line of some sort. The person injured, Damar Hamlin, is 6ft 200 lbs, pro athlete in great shape.

Meanwhile Little Johnny wearing this for Little League, but have never seen one. A sponge with Jock Straps on it.

You’re an idiot. Read up on commotio cordis. There are a few videos of confirmed cases you can find on YouTube. Watch them then watch this clip do some actual research on it then get back to us. And take your crotch fruit herdman with you.

Yeah, sure thing man. 12 incidences per year out of 350,000,000 and we arrive at the consensus diagnosis 20 mins after he collapsed.

Yeah I do… and I base that on the timeline of events mechanism of injury and knowledge of said injury. It’s more than your random website and assumption about vaccination status

How so? What did he say that is not humane? He didn't make fun of the injury or situation.

Why are all these young people dropping?
They were dropping pre-Covid too. And now every time some young person dies y’all just can’t wait to try and blame it on the vaccine.

They reached that conclusion probably before the got to the hospital. How many times has this happened in thr nfl? College ball? High-school? Yearly? Last 5 years? LAST 10 OR 20?

At what point do we address this crap?

How many coached have dropped out recently? Players? Young athletes?

Just coincidence? He had damn shoulder pads on that has a chest protector on it.

Watch the replay. He didn't get speered with the crown of helmet. It was a sideangled shoulder hit. So, the running back shoulder pads would have absorbed part of the hit. It wasn't a blunt point object either(like a helmet). Then, the tackler's chest pad would have aborbed impact as well. Wasn't even like the runner ran straight into him.

You mean something that has long been exceedingly rare is still exceedingly rare? At what point do you realize you’re a complete dingleberry and has no clue what you’re talking about. You’ve jumped on muroxs nut sack and he’s hanging hard from the antivax crowds. So much so you both have been blinded by it that it’s the cause of everything when in actually it’s a small fraction of causes. Are the reasons to question efficacy and safety of the vaccine. Absolutely. Does it cause every potential cardiac issue. NOT A CHANCE

God damn dude. Please go read about commotio cordis. All it takes is an impact in the right spot of the chest, full on collision with another players shoulder square into the chest would classify as an impact, then all we need is for it to happen in exactly the right segment of the heart beat, beginning/upslope of the t wave (ventricular depolarization). In this case it appears that happened. It literally is a millisecond which can explain the rarity. Go look up Chris Pronger

We will know at some point. He will have a full EP work up.

I think this guy has been fantastic with Covid and heart stuff. Watch him and Mandrola.
