Prayers Up For Damar Hamlin

If true (he arrested again in hospital) that doesn’t seem good. Hope this dude pulls through.

I agree with that and meant to add that up there. Either the original arrest trigger was still present, pe, myocarditis, infarct etc or the damage to his heart was so bad from the original event that his pathway is done.

If it was a pe, myocarditis, or mi I just don’t see why that would happen right after a direct blow. It would be a huge coincidence.

Throughout this discussion I couldn't help but think Goodell and the NFL are wishing against commotio cordis. There would be issues with the players' union, research teams, equipment redesigns and testing, etc.

Back to an earlier question that went unanswered. I have heard of instances whereby a person has had a cardiac episode and "were dead before they hit the ground".

If it were indeed commotio cordis would the cardiac episode be concurrent with the hit or would he have been able to hop up like he did (adrenaline, etc.) only to collapse 2 or 3 seconds after the hit?

Hopping up after the hit doesn't seem abnormal at all to me. If he went into an arrythmia (presumable ventricular fibrillation) you still have a few seconds of good blood pressure/brain perfusion. However, after a hand ful of seconds the blood flow/pressure slows down and then you pass out.

Here’s Chris pronger getting up then collapsing.

There are many other examples of injury occurring than the person walking/moving for about 5-10 seconds. Lacrosse player Peter laatke story comes to mind. There’s also an OLD video on YouTube from a martial arts tournament where the person gets punched in the chest walks back to starting position then collapses.

Hey 429, given this update would you like to amend your diagnosis or are you still going with the exceedingly-rare condition that has never occurred in the history of professional football?

no worries. he's a trained physical therapist or something and fully qualified to diagnose from his couch.

No I wouldn’t. As I’ve said based on what I’ve seen it’s commotio cordis

Let's be honest here. That guy damn near dropped dead from a heart attack. He still might not make it.

That hit was just the easy button to push for what happened. BS. Maybe he hit did it, but I have my doubts.

There are too many occurences of it.

Read the substack from McCullough. HS and younger kids would be at much greater risk than a 24 year old.
I read it. I think McCollough isn’t as good as Murthy .

I also think Kory is off on stuff. I remember how he was the champion of high dose vitamin C for sepsis and was very wrong on it once the trials were done. This was way back when I was an intern nearly 15 years ago. I remember reading his stuff then (or at least reading about vitamin C for sepsis). Memory is fuzzy this far out.

They seem to speak of such certainty and I think there’s more room for nuance. I don’t think there’s strong enough data.

Liberals might "come for football" but no one will care. Fans are truly fanatical, and there is too much money involved.

Change will happen because players will demand it, much as we have seen with CTE awareness bringing about changes.

I love football, but can admit that the more we know we might begin to think it's not worth playing.

Do any of you folks remember the Detroit Lions player who broke his neck and needed to be inhibited on the field before he was moved?? I can’t remember the year…but it was during the modern era.

Football is a violent game. It’s a miracle that more life threatening injuries don’t happen—but it’s always possible. If you don’t want to see it…don’t watch.

Breathing tube has been removed and damar was able to FaceTime teammates during a meeting

Obviously today's game has taken on an entirely different meaning for Buffalo (& the NFL, really) but if the fans don't dildo the field, I'll be shocked.

I just stumbled on this article and thought it was interesting. I don't remember this happening but not a hockey fan.

"FYI, Hamlin's physicians, in a briefing from the hospital earlier this week, have said it's too early to determine if commotio cordis or another heart issue caused the medical emergency."

Anyone know of any updates as to the cause?

I did find this article.

"Lastly, commotio cordis. It's when the heart stops from a shock to the chest. Roberts says this is very rare and that in this case CPR would bring a person back immediately, which isn't what happened with Hamlin."

If pinpointing the origin of Covid is a mystery (that will completely unravel a narrative) you think they'll deviate from commotio cortis?

Of course there’s a lot more nuance to it than just getting hit in the chest. From what I’ve read/remember you need about 50Joukes of energy to stretch the myocardium enough to cause vfib. It’s not enough to necessarily cause physical damage to chest wall. The force of two nfl players running full steam at each other with all of the force being applied to anterior chest wall could reach that
if he'd have jouked just a couple times, he might not have gotten hurt.

mmmk, on a serious note, the silence in his answer when asked what the doctors indicated had happened to him was extremely telling. dude has been silenced. commodo dragon corditis? why not say it, not like whatever happened was the result of sucking a donkey dong. because it wasn't.

wonder what his plans are for his next booster . . .

It is a little weird that every other single piece of this has been made into national news with the exception of the single thing they told him that caused his death.
