Do you remember the make of drill you used on your wells? I would guess garrdner-Denver or the most popular ingersoll-rand. Both probably used JOY compressors. Drilling deep takes alot of air pressure. To keep the steels from getting too tight they use grease every time they add a steel. Awhile back my wife said I sat up in bed and yelled, good God Im out of black grease. When i ran out of grease i opened the door of the drill and sprayed the threads with liquid wrench.
