Marshall is really cranking up the local recruiting on the football front. Several players appear to be moving to the forefront of the 2021 class. Can the staff pull them in?

As you know Marshall will be graduating seven offensive lineman this coming season. Will Ulmer, Alex Mollette, Alex Salguero, Cain Madden, Tarik Adams, Josh Ball and Sean Behrens. Clearly that is a position of need. It is becoming clear that two players, both local, are emerging as the two that are being sought out the most.

Expect Marshall to be on the lookout for a total of 5 to 6 offensive lineman. If the Herd can land these two guys, then I would think they may venture out to try and get a couple Junior College guys to wrap up the class. Biggs is a big time player. The ability to keep him at home would be a huge coup for the staff. If Marshall could land these two guys, and combine them with the incredibly talented punter (see below) from Morgantown High School, that would be an excellent start in building a class with local flavor.

I would not expect to see too many wide receivers or running backs in the 2021 class as you would see listed here on Herdnation. That class is already made up of several high quality players from the class of 2020 that will be non qualifiers heading into this season. The class of 2020 was made up of 6 guys who have played wide receiver and 6 who have played running back at some point. See full list below:

Although the class would appear to be filled with skill guys, there is one local wild card. Poca (WV), running back Ethan Payne. Payne just became the first Dot to ever win the Kennedy Award as the states top player. Payne will be a senior, and his brother Toby will be a rising junior and could be one of the best players to come from this area in many years. Payne could be the exception to the skill position rule for the class of 2021.

Back to lineman real quick, there is one other on the team that could very well earn a scholarship soon. Jack Murphy. The staff is very happy with his progression.

In regards to other positions being looked at for the class of 2021, I would expect the following players to receive a lot of attention from the staff in coming weeks.

The final player to talk about today is a quarterback out of Frisco, Texas. Definitely high on the radar, maybe even more sought after than Nate Hampton.

Braylon Braxton is a big bodied 6'3" 200 pound quarterback from Frisco Texas. He is a dual threat type quarterback with a big arm and a big upside. Could be seen as someone who has "it" to lead us to next levels. Currently has offers from Arizona State, Memphis and Southern Miss among others.

Stay tuned as things are beginning to heat up. Bigger schools are pushing kids to commit. How will that play out with Marshall? No camps this summer will also play a big factor. Will this prevent some strong two starts getting bumped up and bigger schools offerring?

Stay tuned!!
