Southern Miss has been bitten hard by COVID leading up to the season.
With the most recent announcement, the total number of players sitting out/transferring this season is up to six (Two DL, Two RB, One WR and One LB).
Those departures should not be slighted either.
The departure of Jacques Turner is significant as he is/was their best defensive player according to a variety of media members. Garrett Crawford, the other DL, was a reserve last season.
At LB, they lost Racheem Booth, who was their 3rd leading tackler at the linebacker position.
At RB, they lost reserves Steven Anderson and Trivenskey Mosley. Anderson was SM's 3rd leading rusher last year.
At WR, they lost Jaylon Adams, who was their 3rd leading receiver last year, and would've been their 2nd most productive WR returning in 2020.
It will be interesting to see if their depth can hold up.
