Spears stated that there were only 41 players left for the game. You can't turn DB into linemen to play in a bowl game.

He didn't say there were only 41 players left; he said they didn't feel they could put 41 on the field safely; that is his assumption. They didn't want that game after the starters left; plain and simple. When you're in a hole, quit digging..... Spears should do this.

Most teams get money for playing bowls. Marshall always does things a little differently.

I am still trying to figure that one out. I thought as part of the scholarship you got 3 meals per day. So what was the big deal
