My daughter was offered a scholarship to play soccer at Greensboro. That is one expensive school. Nice facility for a D3 college.

Man, UNCC fans are arrogant dicks. I've come to despise that school about as much as WVU. They must have the little man syndrome in NC.

Twolf - They are the worst!! ECU used to be, but they along with App have had enough success against Tobacco Road that they now feel parity. Not so for the 49’ers!! They are butt hurt 24/7 seemingly......

Their coach seems like a dick too. In 3 out of the 4 most recent matches we have went 2-0-1 against them with the sole loss coming on a goal in the 89th minute. Seems like he always makes excuses for why they lost instead of acknowledging were just better than them now lol

What did he do/say
They are just dicks on the CUSA board. Making fun of our city, soccer facility. They never lose at any sport, always ripped off or screwed because of UNC ruling the higher Ed roost in NC.
I hope they lose at everything.

they have a huge overinflated view of their role in college athletics.

So do Marshall football fans their history in soccer is much better than ours. And there really is no comparison on cities. Honestly we should all be embarrassed to see the soccer field tucked in between the run down drug houses.
uncc has always had an inferiority complex but his complaints about Marshall aren’t wrong

Don’t ever tell me (or anyone) that I should be embarrassed with something out of our control, or really anything for that matter.

We are Marshall. We will make the most with what we have, and soccer is absolutely doing that.

That embarrassment should compel you, the school, community etc to want to try to better the area. It’s ok to be proud of the teams success. It’s ok to have pride in the school and the community at large but to just wash over the glaring issues is only asking for mediocrity in the long run

I'm not. The soccer facility is a FIFA level one and has been the grounds for major success for MU's soccer program.

It must suck for you to see MU, with such a poorly located soccer field/complex, win the conference.

Why the hell even go down that road other than to be an ass? That's the issue, we all know Huntington has warts, so deos Charlotte but I don't go on their board and shit all over that city. A few blocks from Bilie Graham Parkway isn't Hollywood, that's for damn sure.

Win it back-to-back too. Charlottes got history, no ones denying that. But last year wasnt a fluke, as we've now manhandled the 69ers in back to back championships. Also if were talking about the quality of our field, and not just the aesthetic of the stands then we have arguably the nicest field after having the new turf put in last year.

The last time I visited Huntington, I made it a point to drive by the new soccer stadium. I remember as a student at Marshall going to basketball games at the old field house, and I wanted to see the changes.
The stadium itself is very attractive. Granted, the area around it is somewhat dilapidated, but my hope is that as the houses decay, they will be condemned and demolished. I look forward to a day in the future when Marshall will stretch all the way between 3rd and 5th to meet the stadium.

Whatever MU is vis WVU, or Louisville is vis UK, or VPI is vis UVa, and so on, is not a discussion that UNCC can hold relative to UNC. They aren't "second" or "little brother". They are a spec.

Anybody who criticizes our (100% paid by state economic development $$) soccer field can complain about anything. Get a life.

Anybody who does not understand that the city/state is using MU as urban renewal is not paying attention. The main campus is, more or less, full and that means expansion. Be it the lower middle class but certainly not ghetto field house lot that the soccer stadium was built on; to the yes, it is the ghetto, "medical campus" being developed.

I never said the soccer stadium wasn’t top notch. Surrounding area leaves plenty to be desired. On tv it looks awful. Hell build a taller fence and problem solved

You can’t be serious? You’re asking an individual , Marshall U and the surrounding community to finance the purchase, demolition & construction of new houses so that the area around the soccer stadium “looks” better on TV? Probably the most asinine comment posted on here in a long time.

Huntington has a worse drug/crime problem than Charlotte and the surrounding area?

Taking pride in your community/home is asinine?

Charlottes soccer field backs up to run down houses?
And according fbi stats Huntington is worse for violent crime per capita

Charlotte isn’t quite Oz.

429: What year was the UNCCharlotte campus constructed? Is Charlotte’s soccer stadium located on campus (where presumably there are no 70-90 year old dilapidated structures)? How many acres large is Charlotte’s footprint vs Marshall’s? Oh.....I got it!! Back in 1949, MU should have seen this coming and purchased the land intended for the Field House and built a state of the art coed soccer field. Back then, the surrounding homes were fairly new & well kept....what’s that? Soccer wasn’t a popular sport back in the day? Hmmmm....well, whoever was in charge should’ve realized soccer was going to become a thing and added land to the campus....you can see where this goes...
I think it was a great idea to create lemonade out of that piece of useless property. I also think we have a Pruett-level HC and a swagger in our soccer program. We will be fortunate to keep Coach Grassie here another season. Why can’t we as fans just get along?

I don’t get too upset about substandard housing around the soccer complex. My dad attended Marshall and lived in Hodge’s Hall. He told me across the street at that time was a some what shabby residential section. Today it is new dorms and a beautiful recreational center.
When I attended Marshall, the area across 20th St housed seedy bars, a furniture store, a tire shop, and run down houses. Today that area houses the football stadium and the indoor practice facility.
Might take a few years, but the campus will reach the soccer field someday.

I’m from Charlotte. I know it has its rough neighborhoods. That’s why I said per capita. Do you know what that means?

Old houses can still be kept up and look nice. My god who knew you all would get so butt hurt over hearing the truth. Marshall soccer complex is newer than charlottes I believe it is a very nice venue. The surrounding area leaves a lot to be desired. That is a fact. I’m sorry you all get so OFFENDED by hearing reality

Now hold on just a minute. The Varsity on 20th St. was not a seedy bar. I know this because many students, myself included, frequented that bar quite often. Across 3rd Ave, from Hal Greer to 18th St. And maybe on up to 20th St. were what I would call less than luxurious housing occupied by MU students, although at that time there was no drug problem. Across from Hodges Hole was Gullickson and the football practice field.

Not in 1939 when my dad was a student at Marshall College. The whole area was older houses. I have pictures! The campus then pretty much ended at 18th St. 😁

The fact you rarely post anything positive about Huntington or Marshall leads me to believe you are a troll or just like to stir shit. I mean why even go there? Truth or not, it serves no purpose to bring it up.

Based on per capita? I would be confident saying "yes."

Per capita 900k vs 50k, yes, but it’s still a hairs separation in crime.

I lived as a kid on 27th street, back then it was a nice neighborhood and even Highlawn was nice. It’s been sad to watch the downturn over the years. I’ve seen a few homes being renovated and hope that this area has a strong revitalization, it needs it.

Ahh the old be satisfied with the status quo defense. And I didn’t bring it up. I asked what the Charlotte coach said and made a statement affirming what he said was true. There is no debate. I’m sorry you can’t handle that.
