Whenever our basketball team loses to a team I never heard of by double digits, I look that team up to see who they are. Elon is a school located on 690 acres in North Carolina. It must be so serene that it lulled our team to sleep. We should only play teams located in noisy environments from now on.

Is this incessant put down of our sports teams something we should look forward to throughout 2025?

- If one is going to follow college basketball regular season, below the SEC/ACC/B12/B10/BE level, one probably should not admit one has "never heard of" a solid mid-major program in a league (CAA, now woked up as "Coastal Athletic Association" formerly the Colonial) which is definitely a higher league than the SBC.

- I don't get the basketball hate. This is a token effort and that is what CS wants, and most here are in the CS supporter camp. This team is going to be one or two games on either side of .500, based on a weak non-conference schedule and the simple fact that more than half of the football centric SBC is likewise making a token effort. It is what the CS supporter group signed up for and cheers for. Go down to the HC, or pop open ESPN+ and know that the Herd has every shot at winning some of the time, most of the time, actually. It is what you signed on to.

No basketball hate, just confusion. We had a team that was around .500, shot poorly, and didn’t bother with defense. We fired the coach and replaced him with a coach who produced about the same product. Might as well kept the old coach.

The old coach was not fired for basketball reasons. He overplayed his political pull and didn't tow the party line as he was told to do.

To end your confusion, this is a token effort. This is not an attempt to win, really. The NCAA says we have to have basketball, and the blunt fact is the amount of effort put into it means it can turn a slight profit on a cash basis. This is a league, like CUSA before it, made up of schools that would not be together but for football (in fact in an alternate universe with no football, the Colonial is about where MU would belong). Most of the league either does not, or can not, make a real effort at basketball. MU could, but in the CS world, it makes more sense to go with the current token effort. A couple of thousand die hards show up to the 45 year old arena, with half the capacity tarped over for, ahem, "safety reasons". The sell some tickets, sell some Pepsis and some stale popcorn. It gives those of us who post here during non-football season something to talk about, and gives the TV stations something to fill up the 3 minutes of sports on the 6 o'clock news.

This is a token effort.

You would think that in a league that doesn’t care, Marshall would be a star player because we obviously don’t care at all high level.

I see the women are keeping pace with the men. Is either program making any money on ticket sales?
