Nope. I believe a women’s double tennis pair actually played for a national championship several years ago. They lost.

GreenDuke you are correct the farthest a team sport has ever done at Marshall in a DI NCAA tournament.
I would also have to think this is the first time in any DI sport we have beaten the number 1 team in the country.

I wouldn’t quite place a 2 person “team” on the same level as a full squad. In Division I, we’ve never reached this deep into a tournament that crowns a national champion…..all kudos to the 1947 NAIB small college basketball champs….

Women's doubles tennis a few years back.

Lost to UCLA in the finals. Tennis is a SERIOUS sport at quite a few West Coast and PAC 12 schools. i believe some HERD players garnered All American honors making it as far as they did!

I can say with certainty that a lot of schools take all varsity sports very seriously. They are funded properly and expect athletic and academic excellence. I believe Marshall’s athletic dept. and the coaching staffs and players expect success, the only thing missing is funding. Which is always a big issue.
