The truth behind the '96 fiasco

Heard from a couple "connected" friends in Huntington that there was a lot more to the story than what we read...all the way to the board of governors, former coaches, etc. Anyone else hearing all this?

I understand our football team's performance was the impetus for Coach Pruett to attempt to get back involved and the 1996 team's challenges were to be the proverbial "straw" for the camel.

Once again a thread without any factual evidence other than persons "connected" or "close to" or source not wanting to be identified etc. So why even start this?

There is plenty of validity in what you're saying. Pretty pathetic situation here.

Josh show the rest of us your "validity" please.

I'm not going to in depth because that's premium info that only people on #OldFairfield have access to.

Think about this for a minute though. In the world of social media and rumor mills, how on Earth did it take six weeks before something was said about this situation?

I mean, members of the '96 team did multiple interviews and had ample time to discuss their displeasure since that weekend and not a word was mentioned prior to Landon's article. Think about that. I mean, don't you think that's a little odd?

Exactly what Josh Stowers said. I heard Pruett forced Landon to write that article some six weeks after the "event." Tim Stephens wrote an article after that game and none of the '96 team complained. Pruett's intent was to shake up things so much that our AD would lose his job and he could roll into it.

There is no way Pruett could be our AD. The man is too old. He doesn't need that gig.

I really don't give a damn who is to blame but I know in 5 decades of watching Marshall football, this has to be the worst season I have ever experienced on many levels. It's an embarrassment and a shame. Those responsible should be held accountable to fix it - pronto!

This idiocy is reaching conspiracy theorist tin-foil hat level nuttiness.

So, let me understand this idiot theory.

- Some troll, or perhaps the better term is sock puppet, for its first post on the board ever, says it heard various unnamed people "talking" about a vast conspiracy. Apparently the focus of this vast conspiracy was to engineer a supposed slight in sideline access (a story so insignificant it is not worthy of mention) in order to replace the AD with a 73 year old man who has been collecting a pension for 12 years, and has no experience in athletic administration.

- This story was apparently "forced" on anti-Marshall columnist Chuckie Landon by said 73 year old man.

- The fact that said 73 year old man has been on Jimmy Justice's payroll for years and, if he wanted it, could simply get the job as spoils for Justice's recent election is to be ignored.

- All of this is supported by secret info in the premium recruiting board, with the above slighted ballplayers having been recruits 24 years ago and being currently men in their 40.

- Or perhaps it not MH's job that said 73 year old man wants, but rather DH's. The fact that he would be the 4th oldest coach in I-A (with two of the higher ones already making succession plans) is, as in all conspiracy theories, to be ignored as it does not further the wing-nut conspiracy, as is the fact that said senior citizen has not been involved in football coaching for over a decade.

What this all means, really, is that MU fandom is currently divided into two. Those who wish to piss and moan about ONE bad year, want everybody fired for it, and want to complain about the schedule, the TV, the conference, game start times, beer, no beer, parking, sideline access, and whatever else. And Herd fans.

Go Herd.

Bob wants the coaching job.

I see now the plot for a potential sequel coming to fruition in "We Are Marshall - 2"

Alan Thicke as Mike Hamrick

Joe Don Baker as Chuck Landon

I'd take Pruett back in a heartbeat over Doc. Pruett at his age would coach circles around Doc.

is this serious? It seems like a giant troll... Kind of like a season in which we lost to UNCC, ODU, and North Texas...

Doc might not be a good X and O coach but atleast he is a coach of class and dignity. If Pruett ever came back to coach this team, ill forever quit my support of Marshall

Andy, Aaron Ferguson went on that guys Twitter and told him he's full of crap. So we can now throw Aaron in with the conspirators. LOL

Did he hold a gun to Landon's head or put him in a submission hold until he wrote the article?

have heard from more than one person "in the know" that pruett and landon (and a couple of other "names") actively fight against doc and hamrick at every turn

Probably because Pruett is sick of seeing his team be buried into irrelevance.
