This Obviously Isn't A Herd Hoops Board

Absolutely, Dunk.

Plus, just because a school doesn't have a big name doesn't mean they aren't good. People laughed because we lost to Grand Canyon last year. But at the end of the season I think they won 25 games with a top 100 RPI ranking and I think they had a pretty good NIT run. Who knows how good these teams are/will be? That preseason CUSA ranking we had looked right this time last year...but by the end of the season, Dan & Co made a lot of people look stupid.

Fort "F'ing" Wayne.......It's college basketball....On any given night any team can beat another.

I'm more excited for bball than I ever have been. I don't know what is going to happen in March, but I love watching the development of the players and progress of the program under DD and staff. And the games are just entertaining. I've never understood the negativity of the DD hire. He keeps proving the critics wrong...but the critics just make up more stuff. Can't win with local players, can't recruit, can't replace Kelly, etc, etc. I love listening to the guy talk about basketball. Since I have been paying attention...Donovan, White, Jirsa, Jones, Herrion...none of those guys come close to matching his basketball IQ, IMO. We have reason to be excited. I expected a drop off after Kelly, but didn't see the emergence of Thompson and Aleksa coming. I thought we may have a drop off next year because we start 3 seniors...but it's looking like Bledsoe, Allison, Burks, Williams, etc will do just fine after another year in the system. The recruiting classes have consistently gotten better every year. Just have fun and see where it takes us.

Considering what Billy Donovan has accomplished post his MU career and now in the NBA lets not get too carried away. When Danny D. brings his NCAA championship trophy into the Henderson Center, then perhaps a lot more fans would agree with your statement about basketball IQs.

It's still football season for one reason. No one, and I mean no one really follows basketball this early. Can't say I've seen much about basketball even here in ACC country.

Just not that into bragging about scrimmage game wins I guess.
Those definitely weren't scrimmage games as NC Central, Morehead St, and Jackson St should be at or near the top of their conferences this year and are good competition. All three could win 20+ this year and Ohio St barely beat NC Central as well.

It is still football season season. Considering that we are doing well. We have a good group back this year. I personally try and go to every game I can. Regarless what their record is,,I go. For me, the herd must go into every year wanting to go to the big tournament. Either go to the big dance or bust. I mean we have finished in every other position. This team surely is one of the best 64 teams in the country. DD is doing good he just needs to land a real center. We already beat two teams who have better programs than us. 4-0 GO Herd
We did in Iran Bennett, but this year's team is good and is among the favorites to win the conference. based on the current Sagarin spread on Real RPI, we are favored to go 21-9 (14-4) this year, and the probability has us at 19-11 (12-6) based on results so far. I see us as a potential 20+ win team, but I won't say we are going to the NCAA tournament until it actually happens. We play a solid schedule that could help us in March to get an at-large bid if we do better than expected in the OOC schedule and finish near the top of the conference.

OKIAY greenduke the 71-72 team was last great team. i saw randy noll play in a lions club tourney in sistersville anybody remember george stone. yep noll was a ky boy i think and like danny hall transferred from ky. jerry west played in the lions club tourney and lost. this was after winning the gold. some playground super star from pittsburgh beat the west led team.

Wonder who the manager was for that stretch 70-72 especially the 71-72 season...that guy should have seriously gone into coaching..................

Raleigh - obviously unlike me you are not married to a UK grad. Haven't missed a game since the first practice was broadcast , from Big Blue Madness until the end of March Madness , every game. It's an unwritten household rule..lol.

ACC - still to much going on with Clemson football , but the Dukies are out in force on other message boards ( hoops)..

This is why I don't get excited about basketball. Every time I get sucked into the hype thinking we may be worth a damn, we have a game like last night. So to answer the OP, no this is definitely not a BB board if they continue to play like last night.

With the system that Dan runs, a win against a team on paper that is superior will only come if shots from deep are going down. When they don't, the ole defense and lack of size (Taylor would have helped some but not much) will lend to a result similar to this one. Maybe not an embarrassing beat down but a double digit loss. What I watched last night is an NBA offensive scheme being run by mid level d 1 guys. It will work against teams like Jackson State, WCU and others but not Ohio State, Pitt, UC or even high level CUSA teams. Needs more 6'7" to 6'9" athletes to go with some excellent shooters which they already seem to have.
