A specific insurance policy for a specific catastrophic event? Nope. Insurance "competing" over state lines? Nope. Not happening as long as 50 State Insurance Commissions have a say.
"Competition" for lower prices? Not until hospital systems/providers/services actually start competing on price for services to patients..(that ship has apparently sailed for my lifetime).

The comments were how terrible a high deductable is. If you are out of pocket until $10k, unless you go to the doctor 50 times a year you pretty much have insurance for something catastrophic.
Sure, there are plenty of plans with decent co-pays for routine shit and high deductibles, but I don't think most semi-healthy people would bitch much about that*, so I am assuming we are talking a fvxk you-out of pocket until you hit the high deductable plan. And that's exactly what our friend Murox supports...along with much of the GOP.

Sure prices vary. We (patients) just don't know how much they "vary". That's not exactly "competition" in a way that allows patients the ability to take advantage of "varied" prices. Without price transparency for consumers of healthcare...how "competitive" could it be?
We have 3 major sized, high quality, health systems here too, with multiple hospital locations within this market. I know for a fact, what they charge for various non emergency based treatments vary greatly, between the "competitive" systems. More troubling IMO, is that hospitals within the same system (within the same market) charge varying prices for the same exact non emergency based treatments. Unfortunately patients have no/very limited transparency in which system or the hospitals within them, offers the best price for services they may need.
Even if you do inquire on prices, or, better yet, ask for itemized billing, your head will spin trying to interpret all the charges.
I agree. And I'm sure the health care lobby was sure to have the law written for hospitals to disclose only the "list price".
